You know, I would like to talk about literally anything else right now. The SA Legends thread exists for old lore, so let's not get into that stuff right here! Thanks! In other news, does anyone have a good screenshot of Myo's evade? It always makes me laugh, but I don't have it on hand right now. Edit: I have found the sprite I was looking for, I no longer need assistance. It turns out that past TQ put it in a folder where I could easily find it. Natural Sciences—532.65—Servant of Wrath Music: Lobby ![]() Since we're working with a lot of new stuff, we'll spend a bit more time going over things than normal. For Tiphereth, we've got a Nikolai build that I decided to experiment with. We've got the possibility of a turn 1 Concentrate + Graze combo to immediately hit 11 Charge and power the team up. Outside of that, we'll mostly use Battle Command to add strength to our allies while keeping our Charge over 11, using Leap and Energy Conversion to draw more pages as necessary. ![]() Omni, meanwhile, is trying out Rudolph. Concentration will pay for any two of his Charge-spending pages, and Graze the Grass can pay for any one of them as well—I just wanna play with his Stagger options and see how well they pay off. ![]() Chinely, meanwhile, is test-driving adding The Strongest to Myo's Prowess. He's also got Information Assessment, because I like having Information Assessment on someone at this point in the game. I could honestly do without any of the Charge options here, Myo's deck doesn't currently require any to get moving. ![]() Tylana's just using Nemo, though. We've seen this one before. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SNAP Music: AbnormalityBattle02 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Servant of Wrath posted:
![]() The Servant of Wrath is basically another escort mission, just like Red Riding Hooded Mercenary was. The rules are slightly different this time, however: our main goal during phase 1 of the fight is to ensure that the Servant of Wrath doesn't take 30 or more damage before downing all of the staves. If this happens, she'll use EMBODIMENTS OF EVIL!!!!, a combat page which we'd like to avoid if possible. ![]() The Hermit's Staves will focus on fighting the Servant of Wrath during this phase of the battle, and are completely unremarkable. ![]() Lastly, there's the Hermit of the Azure Forest, our main enemy today. Unlike the wolf, we cannot accidentally defeat the Hermit. If we ever get her down to 30 HP or less, she'll recover half of her HP on the next turn. She also gains a massive Power bonus when attacking the Servant of Wrath, so we'll want to keep her from getting a chance to attack our ally. Altogether, this means our plan is to focus our attacks on the Hermit to try and time a Stagger for the same time the Servant of Wrath finishes killing the dolls, all without letting her lose 30 HP. Not too complicated, right? Retry Count: 3. I completely forgot how the fight worked my first run, and focused too much on the staves. This caused things to get… bad. Aside from EMBODIMENTS OF EVIL!!!, Servant of Wrath has three normal pages that she'll play throughout this combat. ![]() ![]() Both of them are quite capable of handling the attacks from the Hermit's Staves, and will also inflict Erosion on hit—we'll get to Erosion in a bit, it's a status effect associated almost entirely with Servant of Wrath and her acidic attacks. ![]() Her third attack, AAACK!!, is one we'd prefer she doesn't play too often. While the 2 Strength it gives on the next turn is nice, the 10 damage she deals to herself can push her over the 30 HP threshold, and a +2 (or even +4, if she plays two of them) EMBODIMENTS OF EVIL!!!! isn't something we can realistically eat more than once. Because we can't control the pages she plays, this puts the fight on a sort of soft time limit before we have to deal with her Mass Attacks. But enough about our ally, we've got a Hermit to murder! ![]() During the Staves phase, on every odd turn the Hermit will use two Kindly Make Ways and one Huhuhu… targeting our Librarians. Kindly Make Way is a basic Ranged page that isn't anything to write home about. We've got plenty of ways to blunt these by now. ![]() Meanwhile, Huhuhu… is a purely defensive page that buffs two of the Staves by giving them +2 Power on the next turn. This buffs their numbers to be roughly on par with Servant of Wrath's without an AAACK!!, so we may need to help her out depending on how things fall. ![]() ![]() As for the Hermit's Staves, their two attacks are rather weak for this point in the game. Without the Hermit's buffs, they'll be lucky to get 1-2 attacks through in a turn. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now that some of the enemies have Erosion on them, let's take a look at what it does: ![]() Each stack of Erosion increases all HP and Stagger damage of the person it's affecting by 1. Additionally, it will deal damage at the end of the turn like Burn, with its stacks going down by 1 afterwards. It's very good, but it's also very rare to see applied outside of Servant of Wrath's own effects. ![]() Hold Still is the Hermit's last attack during the Staves phase, and she'll use it alongside a Huhuhu… and a Kindly Make Way on even turns. This Mass Attack can put extra damage onto Servant of Wrath, but we've got plenty of wiggle room for right now. ![]() Because Servant of Wrath isn't targeting the Staggered Staff, we line up a couple of attacks to take it out, and focus the rest of our offense on the Hermit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Mass Attack is very basic, with the first step being the Hermit banging her staff against the ground. ![]() ![]() And then, sparkles burst out of both the Hermit and Servant of Wrath. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Servant of Wrath's lost 26 of the 30 HP she can before she pulls out her Mass Attack, and she's playing an AAACK!!! to go with it, so we'll be seeing her EMBODIMENTS OF EVIL!!! next turn no matter what we do. We want to ensure that we only eat one, though, so we need to kill the Staves on this turn. ![]() Because she's focused in on one with all three dice, we have Chinely take out the other one. Broken dice count as a 0 for Speed purposes, so Myo's Prowess can really shine here and guarantee an easy kill. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Once the Staves are all dealt with, the fight moves on to its final phase. Servant of Wrath posted:
In this phase, the Hermit's attacks change entirely. On the first turn, she'll play three copies of Dear Companion…!, focused on Servant of Wrath. ![]() If this page hits Servant of Wrath, it will instantly Stagger her—our job is to make sure to pull all three of them towards our Librarians so Servant can get in her attacks against the Hermit. If Servant of Wrath gets Staggered here, we've missed our opportunity to finish the fight. This is because on her second turn, the Hermit will play two You Shall Fall…! and one Rise, Minions!. ![]() ![]() You Shall Fall…! gains 3 power for every stack of Cane on the person it's targeting, letting her deal massive damage to anyone who may have one—especially when we consider that the attack that inflicts Cane also Staggers the target instantly. Lastly, Rise, Minions! will bring three more Staves into the batlle, returning things back to the first phase. As for the Servant of Wrath, on her first turn in the Staffless phase, she'll always lead with EMBODIMENTS OF EVIL!!!! ![]() This Individual Mass Attack inflicts a bunch of Corrosion on our team, and the dice make it difficult to avoid eating that third hit if Servant of Wrath is swinging with 2 or more Strength. Tanking one of them is fine, but if we see two or more of them the Erosion will chew through all of our HP and SR incredibly fast. That said… I've just explained everything about Hermit's final phase while staring down a Staggered enemy. You all know what's coming next. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() EMBODIMENTS OF EVIL!!!!'s attack is Servant of Wrath flinging her acidic sludge everywhere. ![]() And I do mean everywhere. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Upon defeating the Hermit, Servant of Wrath also bursts apart, her monstrous form suppressed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Servant of Wrath is a fairly difficult opponent entirely because of how easy it is for the battle to devolve into Servant of Wrath spamming her Mass Attack twice in as many turns, likely wiping our entire run. We were lucky enough to have Nikolai on hand to Mark the Hermit, but outside of that painting her with Smoke and using a bunch of Slashing pages can also help with making sure that we're able to burst through her HP and get her Staggered long before the fight can get sticky. Once we can do that, all that's left is timing her Stagger to be either the same turn that the last Staff is downed, or else right after—her Blunt resistance will stop Servant of Wrath's attacks from doing much damage otherwise. Music: Lobby ![]() And so, Natural Sciences advances to Level 5. We get our last Assistant Librarian here, and more importantly we get three new Abnormality Pages. ![]() Wrath is almost always terrible and we'll never pick it unless we're doing a specific strategy. The strategy in question is quite powerful, but outside of that it's never worth it to lose control of an ally—especially if they're going to beat down our party members as well. Companion, meanwhile, is decent if we can control our kills properly against large numbers of enemies. The restoration of 3 Light to all allies is massive, letting us press the offensive easily. However, there aren't a lot of fights left that have a massive swarm of enemies in them… I think there are around four fights left where this could realistically get a lot of usage? It just comes a bit too late to be super helpful. Lastly we have Acidic Sludge, which just slaps the entire enemy team with 5 Erosion. As our only Level 3 page for now it's an instant pick, but it's unlikely that 5 Erosion is going to make or break a fight by the time we get to Emotion Level 5. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next time, on Library of Ruina ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TeeQueue fucked around with this message at 13:00 on Aug 8, 2023 |

Poor Servant of Wrath. Being betrayed like that sucks. And what's worse is Wonderlab (where she debuted) reveals that the Hermit can be born from anyone who becomes her friend. Meaning any friendships she has are doomed to end in betrayal. Quite depressing ![]()

Wrath gives a really good bonus which would still be good even on level III pages, but it has a severe downside. Maybe in solo runs, but even then, it would require both a specific compatible deck and ability to not dies until reaching EL3. Companion requires strategic play and some degree of luck, but if you can pull it off, it can provide a great deal of sustain to your librarians. You can safely dump all Light into attacking on the Scene you kill Companion and you will have enough steam to continue next Scene. Acidic Sludge Guaranteed 15 damage over 5 SScenes, so it is already better than Malice. As a bonus you get fragility+stagger fragility for more damage and bind for easier clashing. It won't save you if you are in a bad spot, but it would quicken cleanup or shorten boss life. GiantRockFromSpace posted:Poor Servant of Wrath. Being betrayed like that sucks.

Fun fact: The Servant of Wrath fight is currently easier that it was at first. Before there was no trait that made the Hermit invincible at 30 HP except for the Servant of Wrath, so it was possible to kill her on accident instead of letting the SoW do it. However unlike Red Hooded Mercenary, you killing the Hermit was just a non-standard game over, as if the SoW was allowed to die.

I knew this would happen, as far back as Tiphereth's suppression back in the LobCorp days. Totally time for the Middle Layer Realizations now. Too bad we can’t triple tap it. The bad thing about Abno cards that rely on regular enemy style fights is that those fights are super not threatening overall. If you’re already killing targets, you’re already on a momentum snowball that doesn’t need that 3 light party restore. Doesn’t help that emotion levels rising restores light too. It’s sort of a solution looking for a problem, really. Look at the fight with R-corp, where Netzach was only moderately injured, but Gebura’s floor got barely touched.

Honestly, it's quite fine to just forcebrute the game open. I mean, it's part of the toolkit the game give you to beat it so using shouldn't be any problem. It might not use finesse much but a result is a result and the point of the game is to have fun, not stress over it like it's a school test. After all, if a game is not fun, why bother?
