And the train to sector 5 freaked out and sounded the alarm because it thought it was next. Cleaving them in two with a giant key during a quick-time event really is the best part of FFVII

Next updates will come when my PC start working. My $120 10/1mbps ISP is being lovely and my video card is dying. Again. Third world problems. Alternatively I can sign on Vivendi's ISP for about that same amount of money and gain a 10% discount on World of Warcraft .

Man what is it with the LP Curse? It seems every LP I read has a "Oh poo poo guys my hard drive shivved my GPU" It's like computers know. "dude, I'm trying to do something here! For the internet!"

My PC has already died 3 times since the LP started. Granted that's a long time at my slow pace (sorry!) but I'm just considering buying something new entirely instead of keeping this five-years old zombie alive.

I nursed a computer along for 9 years with half-assed improvised repairs and a video card upgrade around 7 years in and kept it playing recent games despite the fact that it was a dinosaur that should have been put down long ago. If I'd had the money I would have bought a new one in a heartbeat because having the loving thing die on me every week got old fast. A computer isn't really gonna last more than a few years unless you put it on life support and doing that results in it begging for the sweet release of death.

LIFE! LIFE 2!". And I don't trust the internet enough to buy that everyone was going down that road ironically. People who actually like FFV claim that that scene was pretty dramatic. And TV dramas have "LIVE, DAMNIT! Why isn't CPR working on this knife wound?!" scenes for a reason. AND it would stop "why didn't Cloud just use Phoenix Down lololol" from being a thing.

Final Fantasies should do away with pheonix downs and just have permadeath. It would be more immersive and realistic and have more vissicitude, it would make the story make more sense and be deeper, and would make the game more hardcore and the battles have more tension and strategy and tactics.

So... if most of your party dies on a boss's last attack of a ten minute battle, oh well, time to load a save or go through the rest of the game without a healer and a summoner, and their associated plotlines? That might work for Might and Magic, but it doesn't really work in a game with a character-driven plot.

Sounds like casual talk, it would be a great change for hardcore final fantasy players and fans of roguelikes. And they could just add more characters, like Chrono Cross. Cloud dies? It's okay, you can just make Poshul your main character. No problem.

Pretty sure that's exactly what Fire Emblem does. All the characters are unique and have portraits and personalities and poo poo but if they take a crit lance to the face they are gone forever.

Sometimes there's one or two other guys who are also super-plot important so if they die then, in terms of plot, they are still alive but too badly wounded to ever fight again.

Mogambo posted:Yeah, but Fire Emblem isn't a Final Fantasy game. Valkyria Chronicles does this as well. If a unit goes down, you have three turns to reach them and the medic will then extract them from the battlefield (if an enemy unit touches them while they're down, they die). There's a total of three story-key characters (out of 50 usable units) that will just 'withdraw', the rest will actually die. And after reading through this thread, I like to think Hojo has a massive slot machine stashed somewhere in his lab. "What am I going to cross-breed today?..." *pulls lever* "A tonberry aaaand.... A Malboro! GENIUS!"

That's roughly the same thing that happened to mine. At its worst point, right before I ditched it for a laptop, it was taking 20 mins to load, and sounded like a jet engine taking off. And then the fucker would overheat, and I'd have to start all over again. Elentor posted:My PC has already died 3 times since the LP started.
