the expanse soundtracks have had an odd history. lots of delays, thrown out on iTunes silently, etc. they never seem like they're coming out until they suddenly are.

I’m fairly sure that something changed around the turn of the millennium that helped actors much more rapidly pick up new (same language) accents. Internet, YouTube, new teaching method, something. Before then it was vanishingly rare; now I’d say it’s not really surprising to find that someone with a believable [place] accent is from [another place].

Then again, you still have performances like Olisabeth Olson in Age Of Ultron, or Karl Urban in The Boys, or, like, a hundred other actors in things.

My mum is a speech pathologist, 99% of the time for kids under 10yo, but every now and then will do intensive coaching for actors developing accents. It's very interesting stuff, she has worked with a few fairly well known names. Much of it comes down to mouth and tongue movements/positioning to really nail the elocution. A few are just insanely gifted but for most it's the result of months and months of specialised work with a professional to do it well.
