Space Flower posted:"My ex-girlfriend had a really weird fetish, where she used to dress up like herself and act like a loving bitch all the time." Yeah pretty much that. And his ideal guy was someone who would treat him coldly and basically ignore his existence. He told me to take longer to respond to his texts so it felt more like I didn't want to talk to him. It was a bizarre relationship. But I hated tsunderes before I met him and he's not really the reason I hate them now.

I thought the appeal was having someone obviously into you and being really aggressively bashful about it. Pretending they don't like you while you act like you don't like them seems like it wouldn't work very well but I'd also read that manga not gonna lie

I think tsunderes are ok as long as there's something of substance that justifies using that archetype.

DisDisDis posted:Coming off being an insane obsessive fan of the GITS 1995 movie I decided to look around more of the Japanese anime cyberpunk subgenre and after a good experience with Lain I started watching it and it felt like it was going for some of the style of GITS which kind of implied depth but it had zero actual substance to it. I don't hate it but I dropped it p quick. it doesn't seem like a show capable of inspiring vitriol, is more what i was getting at.

Yeah, Mozuya-san Gyakujousuru quote:Mozuya Koto is afflicted with the medically accepted disorder known as Dr Josef Tsundere's Bipolar Personality Disorder, or just "tsundere" for short. With her golden hair, blue eyes, twin tail, and being rich on top of all that, Mozuya Koto comes equipped with all the basic necessities of being a top class tsundere. When Mozuya wants to be friends with somebody or when she likes somebody, she will take offensive actions that are completely opposite from what a normal person would actually do in the same situation and it is completely outside of Mozuya's control. The manga is pretty serious most of the time, focusing on Mozuya's troubles with getting along with people as she keeps turning violent due to her tsundere disorder.

Tsunderes can be great and fun in stories that don't revolve around their relationship (the Index/Railgun series is a great example of this), or when they actually progress and develop a real, normal relationship at some point (Toradora). But they're at their worst when they are used to put relationships into an eternal holding pattern where they never quite get past the tsun phase so the author never actually has to write a serious, normal romance. It's even worse when the main character could be having a great relationship with a nicer girl but the tsundere keeps ruining everything forever. Setting that all aside, the author of Another really likes American slasher movies. I'm reading his top-rated novel right now and it's basically just a checklist of slasher tropes but set in Japan. One character even mentions how much like Friday the 13th the situation is. Edit: holy poo poo. If the first death is setting the tone this is probably going to be the goriest book I've ever read by a long shot. I don't want anyone puking so I'll avoid specific details but let's just say the killer uses a giant skewer to make a 2-for-1 sex-cabob Getsuya fucked around with this message at 16:58 on Jul 28, 2017 |
