Ok, I'm all aboard the "watch pissbaby actually start a war" now. And but of course, it's in the most desceptive, low effort, copy of historical precedent, false flag way possible I shouldn't be shocked but I am ThisIsJohnWayne fucked around with this message at 08:16 on May 13, 2019 |

Don't we get reports (from goons or local media) of troop/base mobilization before war is declared/commenced?

It doesn't mean that a war starts today. It means that a conversation starts today, something like "what are we going to do about the criminal bandits who attack us because they are evil? Such a threat to world stability. A lot of people are saying we need to be tough, and we need to use the Big things with the Big words and be biggly Big. I am a stable genius, but folks believe me, Bing Bong song so easy" And no, this is not what a buildup looks like, not by a long shot. But it does look like a "they shot first" justification for something that could escalate to the very same. The latest developments (Pentagon warnings, patriot batter battery deployment, Saudi oil tankers being attacked); Why? Cui Bono? So: watch Trump start a war. Or whatever the hell Bolton has in mind.

More on topic, I think Trump is trying to sell a Causus Belli to the public first. For all their issues, I don't think anyone on the JCS thinks a war with Iran makes sense or is "easy to win" or won't be a giant quagmire (not that they matter much to the Chain of Command, but no one is having that Iraq war moment of jingoistic exuberance besides Trump and Bolton).

God if we go to war with Iran, gas is going to hit like $4-5 a gallon easily It’s also going to be a massive disaster since it will be run by the same dumbasses that ran the Iraq War

FlamingLiberal posted:God if we go to war with Iran, gas is going to hit like $4-5 a gallon easily It would spike very high if Iran made an attempt to close the Straight of Hormuz. But the US is a lot less dependent on fuel from the middle east then it used to be. Prices would go down, at least in the US itself, as more fracking operations came online to take advantage of the high price.

In some other tidbits besides imminent war with Iran mk 348, MBS has come out in defense of China's right to throw Uyghur Muslims into concentration camps. There were also some large protests in Tehran today, at Tehran university, over the mandatory hijab law. Young professionals and students didn't participate as much in the most recent protests, which were centered around rural areas. The videos coming out of there make it look like the most serious protests from that segment of society in quite a while.

lol this is the most transparent false flag ever. "Gee just as our ships get to Iran, after Iran doesn't bow to our sanctions bullshit, some rando ships get burnt and our good friends the Saudis say 'yea this was Iran'. Guess we have no choice..."

That's a significant amount of the US military to deploy to just sit and watch. It also gives Iran and it's proxies a lot over targets to shoot at if poo poo went down.

Those attacks on the oil tankers (and any future attacks) will be blamed on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard whether they actually did them or not. And I'm thinking they did not. And guess who we just designated a terrorist group? The Iranian Revolutionary Guard. That gives the Trump admin all the legal cover they need to attack them since I believe the AUMF from 2001 would cover it. gently caress, that bill is just the gift that keeps on giving for Republicans.

I'm glad those 120k troops will be safe with all the defensive B52's that have already been brought over there to provide protective firebomb cover.

Also drat did the NYtimes not change at all or what? They cheerleaded the runup to the Iraq war, and now they won't even question these oil tankers getting attacked. It's so plainly obvious this is some false flag type poo poo.

Just so we're clear, the US isn't sending 120 000 troops. If they do it will mean something, but we're not there yet.

I heard they were being sent as border contingincy to increase pressure on Iran, and not as Operation Iskander.

Interestingly Press TV was one of the first to report on this, just mentioning explosions or fire. A Lebanese newspaper was the first, voting eyewitness, and others picked it up from there. UAE initially denied the reports.

The total shitstorm that is navigation in the Gulf makes me think this is probably a coincidence of oopses and some jackass, when interviewed, claimed he saw a terrorist explosion UFO flying the Iranian flag, so now SA/RT/UAE/Press TV get to have an incompetent propaganda fight.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a loose cargo container or something like that floating in the sea, that’s why all the damage is at the waterline.
