I started watching the FR-Wales game and in the first scrum France marmalised the Welsh pack. The commentators referenced how big Atonio was, as well as how big one of the French locks was. I realised that I didn't know if there was a custom for which lock packed behind which prop (in this case I thought it might make sense for the big lock to pack behind the smaller prop to prevent too much force going through one side and causing wheeling). It's a bit embarrassing to not know after 40 years of watching rugby! The Welsh 5 packed behind 3 and the French 5 behind 1 (or vice versa) so there didn't seem to be a pattern there, unlike, say, open and blindside flankers.

There are definitely tighthead specialist locks at the elite level, but I don't think they conform to 4/5 like flankers do wearing 6/7 and the sharper delineation of responsibilities

I recommend checking out Nick Bishop's analysis on Rugbypass or The rugby site, he has written a lot about how 4/5/6 are becoming increasingly similar except 6 needs to add a lot more carrying and be more mobile around the park.
