the game also makes a point to be like “hey this nightwave guy is sorta goofy and you don’t totally need to listen to him, the other aces didn’t”

I already play Imsims by walking to the front door, unloading on anything that moves, and discovering the stealthy route while exiting.

Currently playing through Starlight Labs in Selaco. Finished the first wing. That ambush at the end of the purple wing was incredible. Also learned a new trick with the turret mod for the Penetrator - you can pick up the turrets and throw them, or even hold them up above cover to shoot at enemies. I love that fifteen hours in I'm still finding new tricks.

Max Wilco posted:I finished M1 earlier today, but holy hell, does the last stretch really get rough. Map 24: Revolution is fine for the most part, but the last section at the end where you have to get to the exit terminal by traversing the elevated platform is a pain. It feels like something that'd you'd fin some kind of user-made challenge map. And not helped by Marathon's galaxy brain air control quote:(one of the videos I looked at online showed that you activate the switches with a pistol, but that didn't seem to work in my version) This is a relic from the early days of hardcore people trying to pistol start Marathon levels, something the game was really not designed for the way Doom was. This wasn't possible on one level because it expected you to remotely activate a switch with a weapon you had brought from a previous level (Cool Fusion, from your earlier post) so someone made a tiny mod whose only effect was that the pistol can now activate switches. Whoever made the youtube was probably using it, or replaying a film made with it On Ingue Ferroque, the easiest switch activator is the fusion pistol charge shot, which is not affected by gravity and should be much more accurate to the reticle

I really hope chapter 2 lets you take weapons in from chapter 1 because otherwise it's a drat shame you only get 10 or so minutes to play around with the railgun.

The turret upgrade for the nailgun was the only weapon upgrade that felt meaningful in so far as it changed how I used a weapon. I.e. from not at all to more precious than gold as it covers your flanks incredibly well since it has perfect accuracy.

We get a few through datalogs, throwing bug spray into fire or that hairspray brand into a trash can, but stuff like the secret detector I don't remember reading about anywhere. Or stuff like being able to repair broken roombas with a screwdriver, or that you can drop almost anything onto a roomba and have it stick including turret gun parts, creating a mobile gun platform AI buddy for yourself ![]()

There are two types of multimeter - the common, green Mk1 multimeter, which does absolutely nothing; and the much rarer, red Mk2 which actually does the secret detecting.

haveblue posted:"Spartan" became unavailable for cool badass nicknames once Halo took ownership of it I always liked how one of the possible names for what became the Spartans were Titans, but Spartan won out, so in the Halo universe that's exactly what happened when Dr Halsey named them.

Hey have a sampler of Quake releases news: The vkQuake engine has a new (active) co-maintainer and as a result, a new release (v1.31.0). You can see the changelist there but mostly performance and bug fixes. (Ironically it has more of the recent Ironwail-repo fixes than the latest official Ironwail release does.) Dimension of the Fused is all the original E1 maps smooshed together, interconnected in interesting ways, and with some surprising modifications. Neat! Re:Mobilize, which is quietly one of the best singleplayer mods + mapcollections, has a new release with some bugfixes and polish, new mapper toys, and most importantly a bunch of new maps. Worth trying out this release whether or not you played the previous version! ========== edit: also, BONK JAM coming https://x.com/func_sheep/status/1800917413648838944 JLaw fucked around with this message at 05:31 on Jun 26, 2024 |

All the rooftop jumping in Fallen Aces made me think I could play as Batman but the game doesn't seem to want me to be Batman. The mechanics just aren't there. I must have beaned a guy a dozen times in the head from the shadows with every brick-hard object I could find in the area and he just refused to die. I just started to play it like Blood West and fire my very loud guns from hiding spots. You know, "stealth". There's no permanent reprecussions for a group of mooks seeing their friends head blow up and I'm not getting spotted so I guess this is as how I'm playing it. The three spaces is painful though. Ammo taking up a spot? Really?
