tyler is a joke posted:The Huxley examples are chicken and egg arguments, in my mind. Do people watch the Superbowl because they've been lulled by politicians and the media? Or do people tune out of the state of the union because they don't give a poo poo about a speech from one stooge to another? Hey, speaking of TIME being a lovely rag, here's one of their more recent covers: Now what they don't tell is that Rahm's plan for "fighting failing schools" was initially closing over 50 of them (now reduced to 49). By some astounding coincidence, most of those schools happen to be in neighborhoods with large black populations. Historically, Rahm has been making cuts to libraries and schools and claiming that there was no money to support them. However, he somehow managed to convince the State of Illinois that the Chicago Mercantile Exchange deserved a $50 million tax cut.

Maybe next time they won't vote for the obvious Daley stand-in. Although that applies to most of the city because a lot of people voted for Rahm, not just poor Black people. That man has managed to piss people off faster than I thought he would.

thylacine posted:A number of Kansans rolled up on shitlord Kris Kobach's house in Kansas City today to drop off some shoes on his porch representing deported fathers. Kobach is such an rear end; he's quite intelligent and well educated - D.Phil in Politics from Oxford as a Rhode Scholar, Yale Law - but appears to be lacking any moral compass. Rolling Stone had a great article about the state of affairs the other day: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/rogue-state-how-far-right-fanatics-hijacked-kansas-20130612?print=true Here's their profile of Kobach: quote:Brownback's ideas aren't the only ones being studied carefully by national audiences. His Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, garnered national attention last year as the creator of "self-deportation," the immigration policy adopted by Mitt Romney, in which laws impacting undocumented workers would be enforced so punishingly that the workers would choose to return to their home countries. "Self-deportation" wound up on a long list of punchlines generated by the Republican primary circus – Kobach says he now prefers "attrition through enforcement" – but the Secretary of State remains a potent figure, handsome, articulate and very smart: Harvard undergrad, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, Yale Law School, a stint in the Bush Justice Department under John Ashcroft. You can just tell throughout the article how shocked the reporter writing the story is by it all, it just seems so unbelievable. Here's another politician with poisonous ideas, Allan Rothlisberg: The writer describes him rather unflatteringly as "a retired 30-year Army veteran who is the approximate shape and shade of a Red Bartlett Pear.", and goes on to detail some of the ridiculous legislation he and others helped get passed, and how they kicked out a moderate Republican whose family had been active in the Republican Party since Lincoln. If Brownback manages to get control of the judicial branch like he's trying, you guys are in for some real poo poo for at least the next few years. Best of luck I guess get the gently caress out of Kansas as soon as possible, best decision I ever made. Broken Machine fucked around with this message at 02:54 on Jun 16, 2013 |

What's happening in Kansas is absurd, but nothing is going to happen to reverse it. Believe it or not, the super-Christian population actually hates what's happening--even my dad and his redneck, "Thanks Obama!" conservative friends down in rural Kansas are mad at Brownback for the ridiculous tax cuts he's put in. That said, no Democrat is going to win (sans a Sebelius situation) for a while because there's no horses in the stable to run against Brownback or his minions. Former Lt. Gov. Parkinson is the only person who could even get within 15% of Brownback. PPP did an extremely interesting polling of Kansas recently, as you can find here. The most popular person in Kansas is Bob Dole, followed by a few others by their favorability ratings: Fred Phelps: 2% John Brown: 30% Sam Brownback: 37% (not in the linked pdf, but can be found elsewhere) President Obama: 41% Bill Self: 62% Bob Dole: 69% Yes, you read that right--Obama has a higher favorability rating in Kansas than our ultra-conservative governor. Everyone can agree that Bob Dole rules, though. The man wouldn't even make it through the primaries in today's GOP.
