I love how Mookie thinks he's busting all these taboos with his nudity and sex in the comic, only to fall back on this. Like he has all this imagery of the divine masculine and feminine, these lame superficial attempts at translating what I'm assuming is some facebook group's lovely take on Kabbalah, into these "powerful" that use nude human bodies as symbolism. Only to immediately ruin any lingering sense of import or seriousness to the imagery by instantly seguewaying into a lol dick-and-balls joke. At this point, I do judge Mookie for being this shallow and childish. It's not ok for an adult. This shallowness is everywhere in his comics, its honestly shocking someone his age could be so incurious.

Oh Guys, don't think about orclings getting slapped in the face with dongs, instead think about townsfolk getting brutally slauhtered; It's Chapter 25: Built To Resist (Part 1)  This is perhaps the first sensible decision a character has made in DD ever. I realize it's just to give Greg extra hardship, but still. Good for you Pam, you are allowed to find manchildren annoying and not date them!  Here's where things start getting dumb. Mookie here is again signaling that something about the central government of Callan (whatever that is). Here we see that it discriminates against magic resistant people, despite their ability being incredibly useful in a world full of spellcasting petty criminals. One wonders why she even hired him if this law was on the books, and that tax thing seems weird, like there's a public white magic healthplan being paid into. Mookie loves having characters talk to effigies as way of getting tough words out, it's an interesting recurring image of avoiding conflict. Dumb bait-and-switch cliffhanger, obviously  Whatever, honestly. The characters are dumb and childish, but it's fine in the context. Really what this strip makes me realize is that Mookie starts so many stories with strips that have the rhythm of newspaper gags, only to segue into long serialized sequences with no warning. It makes these early strips plod along. That's what not planning gets you.  I love how Mookie writes troubles characters. Just look at Dex reciting his life history in that upper panel. Totally serious and appropriate approach to the topics he's about to write about. Oh wait, the opposite of that. Not that I would mind that type of dialogue in a lighthearted comic, but this arc is going to stop being lighthearted very soon. This arc is from 2008. Think about the fact that Mookie was a 29 year old man when he wrote those last 4 panels. Think about everything else we seen since then. Mookie's immaturity around sex is ancient and enduring.   Both of these are a little animu for my taste, but still show more effort and experimentation than he would show again for quite some time.  There's that 8 panel comedy beat again. I will give Mookie this, technically that first panel is foreshadowing and important, so good on him for still having a vague idea of overarching story at this point Get ready for some heavyhanded drama straight out of a lifetime movie  Yes, indeed, here is where we see that Dex was indeed a pill-popping wife-beater from the inner city with a stripper wife. Indeed, the same stripper that Celesto decided not to explode when he killed the other slaughterball dude. Brett Taggerty was getting lapdances from his teammates ex! Not cool dude. Of course, Mookie can't resist putting her in the thong with both cheeks pointed at the reader. I'm not even sure how Rachel would know Celesto, so them sleeping together feels a little contrived  Talking about consent... I know the joke is anime uwu, but still, those top 4 panels. Downright sinister. And I know that this sort of humor has its place, and was more prevalent previously, but I don't extend Mookie any flexroom any more for any of this stuff, because it all just pulls from his general skeeviness. Lower panels confirm that Mookie is still thinking about how terrible the people of this small town are....  Greg completely cockblocks Dex after bringing him to town for free sex. Not cool Greg.  That is all the characterization orc culture gets, right there.  So yes, Celesto is here because, contrary to what Dominic said, something very bad is about to happen. Love Celesto's insane rant about how the sheeple deserve to die. Once again, not an argument that Mookie ever directly counters, just tuttuts as being something good guys shouldn't think.  Here comes TIM, once again. The eldritch language he is speaking doesn't look alien enough. Mookie once again wows with his flat, boring coloring.  I'm not even sure why Celesto warned Dex, given his feelings. But this is a bit of an interesting set up, if a little rushed. Dex is confronting the sins of his past, with the knowledge that something bad is about to happen. A good difficult spot for a hero!  Oh wait, he only beat her that one time! Can't have Dex be too bad of a person, otherwise Mookie wouldn't like him anymore. So he's just an alcoholic drug-addict, but not a wife-beater, not really. It's amazing how Mookie by default switches to apologetics for his male characters. The Bartender is in the right, be he crossed a Deegan-adjacent, which means it's time to die  This sequence is just funny. Like this could be a funny joke in a different comic.  Side characters who transgressed against Dex? Dead! Tits in the air, all inflated? You betcha! That's the Mookie we know and hate! Now it's time for lots of gore! But first, more animu energy beams!  See?  And so end's the town of Lynn's Brook. Like Celesto said, they sure do deserve it for treating the Deegans badly. I don't even know where these people came from, they just materialized there to be cut into pieces.  All I can start at is his action figure crotch. There is literally nothing horrifying or scary about TIM now. He was scarier with the blindfold. We'll leave it there for now.

I feel like the best course of action at this point* would be if this is immediately forgotten about by Friday, it has no lasting impact on the characters, and no one ever brings it up again. Sure that's still pretty lovely, but the longer the comic lingers on this the more opportunity there is to turn it into a serious storyline, and the last thing I wanna see is Orcling (rightfully) telling everyone Snout's a creep who can't control himself and the narrative bending backwards to clear his name. I personally wouldn't trust any author with that kind of story, much less the guy who made Stonewater. (* The real best course of action would have been to not do this, but unless Mookie retcons this entire page out of existence those worms aren't going back in their can.)
