Figure 1 Smart birds.
And she can apparently control ink at a distance within her line of sight, why does she need to walk into the room with the dangerous plant zombie abomination when she could just aim a perfectly shaped configuration of ink from a safe distance?

Yeah, that was my first thought as well. In the past, while still undoubtedly lame, ink magic at least looked like:

...which is pretty ho-hum as a magical discipline, but at least it, you know, looks like actual magic. In the most recent page she's just literally fingerpainting the fuckin' cube on what's-her-name's forehead.

Like I guess we could imagine that Ink Witch tried using magic to...apply the seal? whatever the Ritual of Fingerpaint is accomplishing...and that didn't work because of the...vine...bad...stuff...or whatever, but the page absolutely doesn't actually show anything like that. And that's the kind of thing that would be, uncharacteristically, perfect for depiction in a dialog-less comic! Like a fuzzy stream of magic ink being repelled as if by an invisible force field, or flung back and spattered over the walls by the tentacles, or whatever the gently caress. You know? Clash of magical forces is something that seems like it would be an opportunity in a fuckin' high fantasy adventure comic. But I guess we've got to wait to see how fuckin' Snout can meander his way into relevance by applying his fuckin' snooze magic.

Uncle Ben: Still Dead.
She also masqueraded as the Pagefinder spell, allowing her to communicate with Snout over apparently a range of several kilometers or more. Snout also flew using that spell, if I recall correctly.

It seems incredibly useful for communication, but for that to be used... the others would have to actually be doing something when they're offscreen.

like honestly, if you're gonna trace references I'm down, let's see it, but pay a photographer the 3$ for his 1000 photo pack instead of using the first result on google, you'll get something very specific for your needs and you'll be supporting the arts. That's one of the things that bugs me about this poo poo the most, is when you can just... Google his reference, and you know there was no thought or effort, just the first thing they could find.

You see, they reaffirm his naive country bumpkin character. Of course, he didn't start dressing like he fell off a turnip wagon until after he'd started his adventure and been off to the big city because, again, Mookie.

Also, they were patched when he got them, which would seem to imply they were used.

*Edit*

Oh my god, they came with the "DEAF" patch.

*Edit 2*

The gag with the porn shop guy having one hand busy holding his pants up at all times loses something now that I realize I have no idea what was holding Snout's pants up.

Hell, that could even be turned into a plot point: Maybe the sigil for Order is supposed to be drawn neatly but in the chaos of the moment Inky can't get a clear mark down, so she has to either take extra caution to be steady or (if Kaianda actually moved around instead of just sitting still) find a stationary object to anchor her magic onto, both of which could cost her time in a situation that's rapidly developing. I guess maybe there's still time to see next week if she actually did fail or not but I'm not hopeful this conflict will last any longer than the other ones.

If you've got a computer that can support importing 3D models (and I won't assume that everyone does, my own laptop just barely works), you can even get programs that'll let you use different body models in different poses that you can tweak and rotate, and from that you can trace a lot of poses for your characters. There's one I've been looking at where the illustration program itself isn't free (and again I won't assume that everyone can afford that even at sale price)(edit: although at $50 one-time purchase it's still cheaper than certain popular programs), but there's a community-built library of both free and paid assets that includes 3D models you can import right onto your canvas and then trace over. I haven't been able to make art in a long time but I'm hoping that just having these tools will help me ease back into it.

I think I lost the point I was trying to make, which was yeah I agree, he doesn't need to take the first picture from Google Image search for his references! Especially when it's someone's photography that he doesn't even bother to credit! (yes I'm still steamed about that town street trace)

No, the symbol has always been like that, even when appearing on its own in a dream or something. She's drawing it correctly, the actual symbol itself, Order T. Symbol, is a messy drawing of a cube.

One thing we can be sure about, though, is that Snout will somehow get all the credit because he had a dream about the cube.

It's because Mookie has coded his non-verbal animalistically-violent baby-woman character, who had to be taught language and given a soul and literally named by his softboi self-insert, as being black.
