Looks like Disney has fully given up on physical media.

I’m excited!

The original WALL-E UHD got meh reviews so I’m hoping this will have something to kick it up a notch.

But I also think it should have been nominated for Best Movie that year. I love to gush about WALL-E.

Also, I hope this means the Disney death grip is off and we can get the Armageddon UHD we all deserve.

I have some film friends who are real Criterion gatekeepers. Like, something comes out that they don't dub as being worthy of being in the collection, they criticize it.

And I always remind them Criterion's last laserdisc was Armageddon.

Not a novel observation but the Wes Andersons and Kevin Smiths fund like 99% of the other releases so whatever

Border Radio, Tiny Furniture, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the unfinished Blue is the Warmest Color... they've still got a good batting average.

Ah yes, all the Kevin Smith money from the one movie that was only released on DVD and has been OOP for over a decade.

I'm hoping that this means Disney will actually license Fox catalog titles but I'm not holding my breath either.

I love that Criterion is still held up as some hoity toity label when they've released several John Waters movies and stuff like Equinox and Body Snatcher From Hell.

Sorry I'm late
Did Criterion ever say why the updated Blue Is The Warmest Color release never happened? I know the actresses came out saying the director was a creep so that might have been it but I thought that came years later.

Personally I think we need six or seven more Avatars instead of a proper home video release for one of Cameron's most popular films that fans have been begging for for 20 years.

They've actually licensed some Fox titles from Disney since the buyout: Miller's Crossing, Nightmare Alley, The Flight of the Phoenix, and The Girl Can't Help It.

Is there a reason why there's no David Fincher movies on UHD? I'm assuming it's because he's also an insane control freak like Cameron?

There was a UHD release of The Social Network as part of the Columbia Classics Volume 2 set, but that's like $200 and there was no standalone release of it :negative:

I mean, that one and Puppet Master 4 are really the best of the whole series. Those would be the ones that you'd give the fancy treatment for. All the others are best presented in the format of a VHS that was recorded off a late night showing and whoever recorded it stopped recording a second after the commercials start and start recording a second after the movie came back.

I loving love early DVDs that had gimmick packages and tons of Special Features and Easter Eggs and the main menu hosed with you. Fight Club opened with the real FBI warning that glitched into a fake FBI warning, and I think it even flashed the single frame of porn before the main menu.

Fight Club and Moulin Rouge are tied for top 90s DVD.

My man

I have a nice Blu of Moulin Rouge but you're sorely mistaken if you think I'm ever ever ditching my luxurious CE DVD. That and the Pulp Fiction CE were my first-ever proper DVDs when I bought my first player in 2002. Fight Club and Moulin Rouge CEs were released in 2000 and 2001, respectively.

Also nobody should really be buying Fight Club in TYoOL 2022 so your old DVD ought to be the last one anyone has. It's a great film with good memories but sadly it has been tainted by bros who took completely the wrong message from it

We watched the new Vinegar Syndrome release of Righting Wrongs tonight and that movie loving slaps.

The ending of the original cut is insane, I’ve never seen an action movie just kill off every single character, including both leads.

I highly recommend it.

The bluray release goes to the main menu looking like a generic romcom film for like 10 seconds before glitching over to the Fight Club menus.
