50% off is the lowest I've ever seen it, even on flash deals during Steam sales.

E: Got paid, bought Dream Pack 3, the Escort mk1 is the most oversteery old car I've ever driven and the wheels lock up if you go beyond 25% brake regardless of brake balance. Lotus 72 is my new favourite old F1 car, seems easy to drive but hard to drive fast. The GT3 cars are every GT3 car you've ever driven and the new Abarth is the same as the basic Abarth just set up as an actual race car so roughly 300x more fun.

That's a pretty brilliant idea. I'll have to try it out. I suppose I could unplug the motors and see if the pedals still work and see just how much I can remove. I could just mount most of it to my cockpit on the underside since it's mostly circuit boards.

Don't forget that insane 1200hp Gallardo stage 3. All wheel drive corners slides, everywhere.

I really hope they fix up the Oculus/VR support in the next few months. You can't use any of the tuning menus in VR and attempting to setup a race will have the AI start while you are still loading.

The 72 is a blast. I've mostly been scaring the poo poo out of myself on spa with it in AC.

Autoblip on iRacing refuses to work for me. Time to learn how to do it correctly I guess.

Gonna check this out. Other than Dirt Rally I haven't really played much of any racing game since Forza 2 and I kinda wanna go kill some virtual tires.

Heard this game has awesome mod support so I think I can wait until the dream pack DLC thingie I want actually goes on sale.

Another good one to try is RaceRoom Racing Experience, which is Free to Play + DLC. The sound design blows away the other games I've played so far. If you have a decent pair of headphones, then you'll be amazed.

Check out Project Cars if you want a sim with a more gamey career mode, along the lines of what you'd expect in a Forza/Turismo/Grid. Also, the Formula cars in PC are the poo poo.

I took apart everything last night and what you need is actually a pretty small bit of guts from the G27. I bought a little project box from Amazon and will finish putting that in there in the coming days. It doesn't use the A/C power adapter, it's powered only through the USB. The pedals and shifter both seemed to work in the logitech profiler, so hopefully I'll be good to go.

I still need to bite the bullet and order the t300rs as it was set to arrive when I was going to be gone for the holidays. It will be nice having a 2nd Christmas when I order that up. :homebrew:

Much better than it was, I very rarely get taken out turn 1 any more though the trade off for that was the AI being generally less aggressive overall. They don't like being around other cars and tend to want to be on the other side of the track when passing or being passed, but that's seemingly being dialled back to try and find a decent middle ground because they seem to get much closer after 1.4 and also seem to try and pass each other more.

Yeah, it's gotten better, but they're a bit to quick to concede position. Still, until before I did actually enjoy the few races I tried in 1.4.

The LFS devs had Rockingham laser scanned like 7 years ago actually. They only released it today though.

Yeah this is more of an issue, because I don't want to buy a game just to race online because that's what iRacing's for. I can't see myself putting any money into it because a lot of stuff I found while fiddling with options is really not up to par compared to most modern games. I really like what they're trying to do but the thing's been in development for so long that it's really jarring to jump in now and not have a lot of the stuff I'd expect in a modern game, even if it is a part time side-project.

Also the devs seem to be giving permission to people to convert their tracks into Assetto Corsa, but I don't know if they gave permission for Blackwood because it's a free track.

What kind of options are you missing?

njsykora posted:

That's exactly the reason, yes. Blackwood is part of the free demo, which is why they gave permission to port it. You won't see any of the other tracks being ported, unfortunately (but understandably).

But yeah, its focus is definitely on the online part, which has been steadily stagnating over the years due to the glacial development progress. The AI is more of a thing you add for ambience when fooling around or trying to get a rough initial pace for an unknown car/track combo, but not something you'd actively race against for fun.

SirViver posted:

I feel like the seat movement is way more restrictive than it is in other games and not having hotkeys to change it on the fly is irritating, the HUD is bad and seemingly has no way to move elements around, plus visually it's not great to begin with. It feels like rFactor 2 in some ways in that a lot of the features it bases its identity and uniqueness on have become far less unique over time, and other games are doing those things better.

SirViver
Oct 22, 2008
Ehh, if you use "custom view" instead of "in car" you can adjust the view far enough to be outside of the car. Fair enough, there's no hotkeys, and while there's no argument against having those I can't really say I ever missed them back when I was still actively playing it. Seating adjustment generally is a one time affair per car that's actually quite easy and quick to do from the options menu.

I've always found the HUD to be fairly adjustable (except, granted, for actual free positioning of elements) and even today rather prefer the no-frills functional look of it. Admittedly LFS is the sim I kind of "grew up" with so I might just be overly used to it and I don't really have much to compare it to except for AC, which honestly while being a lot more modern I actually find much worse from a usability point of view. Very few games nowadays have a basically fully functional/seamless in-game options menu

RaceRoom Racing Experience's Steam DLC is 50% off.

Jan 23, 2012

Complete sim racing Steam sale rundown (in pounds because that's what I use), there's no flash sales in this sale so if you want it might as well grab it.

Assetto Corsa 50% off (£17.49), Dream Pack 1+2 are 50% and 10% off respectively, DP3 isn't discounted.
Dirt Rally 15% off (£28.04)
F1 2015 50% off (£19.99), this is the only F1 game on sale unfortunately. Was kinda hoping for a 2013/2014 drop.
Formula Truck 50% off (£7.49), not worth buying with the new Reiza thing merging this into itself.
Project CARS 60% off (£15.99), but no DLC discounts sadly.
RaceRoom DLC 50% off except the Audi Sport TT Cup. However this does make the DTM 2015 pack £9.49 which is a solid price if you're looking to get started with R3E. Also the DTM 1992 and WTCC 2014 packs are under £3.
Stock Car Extreme 25% off (£17.24), worth grabbing now since if you own this when the new Reiza game comes out you'll get that for free.
Race 07 and all DLC is 50% off, the SimBin mega bundle is also 50% off. That's £13 for everything and the GTR games which is a freaking awesome deal.

Other stuff that isn't necessarily car sim racing but might appeal to people in this thread
MXGP The Game is 75% off (£3.74) and a game I've had a hell of a lot of fun with.
MotoGP 2015 is 50% off (£14.99), I haven't played this one but these games have always been decent at worst and people who like Milestone's bike games seem to really like this one.
FIM Speedway Grand Prix '15 is 20% off (£15.99) and another game I haven't played but Failrace has done a few videos of and it looks really cool.

E: I bought the STCC 2 and Retro expansions for Race 07 and the DTM 1992 pack for RaceRoom because gently caress yeah old racecars and holy poo poo those old DTM cars are fun. Super unstable, but super fast so a lot like the M1 Procar it's a lot about just keeping the thing pointed the right way. The AI also seems a lot more competent than most R3E cars, way more aggressive on overtaking but not stupidly so. So they'll shoot for small gaps but not so hard that they'll spin you out 90% of the time.
