You know what I bet the problem is? It isn't that the game isn't British enough, it's that there's not enough game for them to make a judgement on.

They probably expect results they can see after all these years.

A PowerPoint with a clip art of Big Benny on it as a comical anecdote to a fat American is probably more insulting than good.

They may well have lost the race.

Speaking of, maybe they need to bet it all on Star Citizen (the horse). :horse:

Episode opens with two new presenters
"Vítejte v poezii! It is I Igor and your fellow commander comrade Valdimir!"

And NOTHING is mention about them, nothing.

A carefully controlled video where they can ensure everything goes exactly the way they want? Seems like the right approach to me.

Exactly. Chris could make an entire loving planet called "New London" and it wouldn't matter because the majority of the game is in space. The only way I think they could get away with it is if the story of Squadron 42 Episode I were to play out in a location heavily influenced by British culture. IIRC Shubin Mining Station is where the first episode is supposed to take place, with the character flying around the system doing various things. So if they wanted to make it culturally relevant they could make the system colonized by ancestors of the UK who are blah blah blah I'm sure there's a way to make it work.

It's funny to think that Star Citizen is so painfully generic that they can't get a tax credit for it.

Every character I've seen has had some variation of a generic American accent, with the exception of whatever the hell Morrow's accent was.

Wait until you hear Sandi's British accent.

All that A/V equipment shouldn't be collecting dust. Sandi and her hipster friends I'm sure will find something to do with the equipment and space.

The question is whether the move would help development. With a 10 hour time difference, the employees might be able to come in, work, and go home--all while Roberts sleeps. Or--Chris stays up every night until the sun comes up doing blow and making everyone in the studio stay on skype.

Duckaerobics posted:

I don't really know how all that works. Can the land not be transferred to an LLC or trust also?

I have a similar issue where my grandfather was logger and they have a bunch of timberland in Oregon. I'm really worried the land is going to be sold off.

There are other tax considerations and it gets to be fairly...complicated and I'll leave it at that. Economic realities of farming these days dictate that we either get bigger and farm more acres or it is time to think about something else and we don't have the capital to get bigger. I only got into running the farms about 4 years ago after my father had a stroke. Ironically he only took over the farms 20 years ago after spending 30 years in the corporate world and retired at 55. What sucks isn't my situation, but the fact that 6 good paying full time jobs with benefits will be lost in the area that frankly doesn't have much else. My wife and I left our careers to manage the farms because many of the people have worked for my grandfather & father now for 20+ years.

Now back to Star Citizen: this doesn't surprise me at all given their very conservative estimated burn rate of $3M per month even if develop only started in "2013". That is still ~$96M over the course of 3 nearly 3 years plus squadron 42 production costs. I know it's not quite that, but if S42 cost at least $15M - $20M to make they've spent at least $100M at this point. $28M, say $24M just after to take processing fees into account, isn't enough to sustain the business for another year without massive cost reductions. All it was going to take was one of their 4th quarter funding drives to go poorly and well...

And that was bound to happen eventually. The market for this game is probably what: 2M at most? Isn't that about the number of ED and NMS sales?

TheAgent has been fairly accurate but let's just assume he's 100% honest and he's giving us the confirmed leaks, I wonder who he is. Going by what he's saying he's having a lot of people leak to him so he has to be at least a somewhat known figure in a related industry. This could mean that he's a video game journalist or someone well known in the industry. Obviously I don't expect an answer to this, I'm mostly just thinking out loud. It is interesting that now that the floodgates are open so many people are flooding to him though. By the sounds of it Derek is seeing an increase in leaks as well.
