PookBear posted:yes but if you're vaccinated and it works that year then you don't wind up spreading it Yes. I'm not arguing against vaccinations. It's just a different beast than something like measles where you can get true herd immunity. Yearly vaccinations afford sometimes mild cross-protection and slow spread but we don't get the full on herd protection like measles etc because flu goes through the pronounced antigenic shifts each year.

Living like you have to ration your internet loving sucks and gets harder every day.

I have a friend who was assigned to one of the trauma teams for Baltimore's Shock Trauma hospital. They are poaching their trauma teams for COVID. In one of the most violent cities in America, they are pulling those experienced with those injuries to work COVID ward, which has less than 10% ICU capacity left, if statements are to be believed.

I used 2000GB of data last month. The woman I was speaking to said I wouldn’t be affected because I “didn’t use any terabytes, [i] used 2000GB.” I was kind of stunned to hear her say that.

I have centurylink, so this won't effect me until they start pushing a data limit here. If they have one, they haven't enforced it on me, and the xbone alone eats north of 1TB a month from mostly streaming garbage. Suck it comcast.

I know a lot more about the history of the flu and vaccines and viruses in general now, and I agree it was selfish of me. Well good job for learning something. Wow CDC has had universal recommendation for influenza since 2010. I had no idea. Last I recall hearing it was recommended for children, the elderly, and people with preexisting conditions. The few times since my discharge when I was asked whether I wanted a flu vaccine or not there was no mention of CDC guidelines. I was told what I posted above in ~2014 and have been operating under the same understanding for years. Grip it and rip it fucked around with this message at 18:05 on Nov 24, 2020 |

Woofer posted:I used 2000GB of data last month. The woman I was speaking to said I wouldn’t be affected because I “didn’t use any terabytes, I used 2000GB.” I used to work for a network provider back during dialup days and people would always get ansty and freak about the fine print about the "unlimited" bandwidth being subject to "fair usage". Thing was, you know the 80/20 rule? It predicts that like 80% 0f the bandwidth will be used by like 20% of the customers. Well, when it comes to internet usage it was more like the 99/1 rule where 99% of the bandwidth was somehow hoovered up by the 1% terminally online locusts. The occasional person would call up all convinced the fine print was a trap to send them a huge loving bill or something once they started using their account but buddy, if you're logging off at least once per week then trust me you're not even close to being in the top 1% of bandwidth users of the time. e: Like I remember sitting down to do the math once and being bewildered that some people could possibly even USE that much data 24/7/365 given hardware limitations, but it happened all right. Well it's fairly easy to hoover up a TB of data if you live with more than just you in your house. Especially if you do any work from home.

I wonder what the numbers look like nowadays with streaming services, working from home, etc. But that's not my problem anymore! It was really striking at the time though how out of whack the balance was. The heaviest users were in a league of their own.

95% of all customers eclipse the 1.2TB cap though. This is just a greedy rear end money grab and it’s so goddamn frustrating because a lot of people (me included) have no choice but to take whatever Comcast might give. Someone needs to finally push for making the internet a public utility.
