I like it because if you tell Kent he's being a jerk he comes to his senses and apologizes extraordinarily quickly, which taken at face value shows that he's trying very very hard to keep his mental condition from hurting his family. im dum ![]()

Last night I played up to the Egg Festival. I smugly collected my eggs and mused about crushing these children at their game. Then I lost to Abigail. What a humbling egg hunt.

The lack of dialogue, interpersonal interactions and heart events for a lot of the characters is one of the few areas I feel the game could still use improvement. There's so much more content in the game than at launch to extend your playtime but you'll still be pretty much done with all the main npcs in a year or so. There's plenty of mods that try to add more lines and depth to the characters, and they by and large suck. Canon-Friendly Dialogue Extension is the best of these I've tried. At the least it makes festivals post y1 less monotonous by giving them new lines for several years.

I am enjoying the heck out of this game. I love being able to take things at my own pace without concern for failure conditions. I'm just gonna do my thing and see where it takes me. These store hours though. I thought the blacksmith was open til 5. I approached his store, decides to check his trash, and when I got to the door it was closed. Checking the trash put me at 4 pm. I guess this pile of geodes will wait for another day.

Never had a problem with the egg festival; I've always somehow managed to get just enough eggs to beat Abigail. Now the Ice Fishing Festival I don't know if they changed it or I had bad luck but I lost to Willy for the first time ever this year. Too much green algae.... Also guess I should have avoided perfect catches but thought I had plenty of time.

Wildtortilla posted:You can align yourself with Joja Mart for an evil playthrough? This game is constantly surprising me with all the things you can do! Yup! During the first Community Center event, when the mayor unlocks it for you, he says Joja wants to buy the lot to turn it into a warehouse. He's resisted selling it so far, but if one more person buys a Joja membership, he'll give in and sell. That's the turning point: if you go to the Joja Mart and buy a membership, the community center closes down. Instead of doing the bundles, you pay Joja to unlock stuff like the mine carts and the greenhouse. It's really for people who don't want to bother with bundles and would rather focus on making a lot of money very quickly.

I just noticed that grapes have almost the same gold/day payoff as pumpkins if you buy the seeds. It's actually more if you treat each foraged grape during summer as a free seed +20g (they sell for more than a single seed costs). Tempted to plant a lot of them this playthrough, even though they block movement.webmeister posted:Yeah you kinda have to know where the eggs are in advance to beat Abigail. Better luck next year, sucka! It helps, but it's not really necessary. The main trick to the egg festival is to commit to a direction of movement and not allow yourself to get diverted from it for single eggs. Other than that, most places you can walk through have enough eggs to win if you're efficient and sharp-eyed. The first few years I played it seemed like there were hardly any eggs, but as I got better at noticing them I've been spotting them everywhere. I think CA did a good job of making it feel like an egg-hunt. The timing is tight enough to be challenging but it still feels fair to me. Yeah, I came close to losing to Willy for the first time in awhile on my save, and it's the first Winter Festival I've had since the 1.5 update. I also always fish in the same hole Willy does to embarrass him, but it definitely seems like I've gotten more trash catches than normal in that Winter Festival.

I still find it oddly hilarious that Joja is MORE EXPENSIVE for the PC. Unless you buy the membership then it's as expensive as Pierre.

How is paying a corporation to do stuff for you Randian self-reliance, but paying the Junimos to do stuff for you "bribery?" Either way, you're giving a group goods in exchange for their service!

while i joke about this, i do think that people are not really correct about characterizing joja as the 'evil' run. you can go look at the americana thread in GBS to get a good taste of how incredibly lovely small towns like pelican town actually are when you strip away the yuppie-conceived romantic notion of an affluent and connected society. i grew up in a small fistful of small towns, and went to a lot more when i used to go to a lot of towns like pelican to earn money for college by, uh, counting cards at blackjack because the lovely local casinos weren't sophisticated enough to recognize me doing it, and trust me when i say you learn to love mcdonald's and holiday inn because you can eat there and not get salmonella, or sleep there and wake up without roaches crawling over your crotch all night. morris never lies and says your produce is his own at least partially because he is accountable to a corporate hierarchy. pierre is accountable to nobody and his lies are immaterial because people are functionally forced to do business with him. it is not surprising that he acts like Boss Hogg at every opportunity. Clearly we need a Yes Man route where you start your OWN store, hire someone to run it, pay the townsfolk to do the repairs that are needed. Running Pierre and Morris out of business optional. Other, much more silly ideas : Get Maru to make Clint a robo-wife. Reveal Emily to be an alien. Have a post-apocalyse AU.

I do wish that there was an option for getting Sam and Shane new jobs after Joja closes. (Unless that already exists in the new game content and I just haven't seen it.)

you get sandy to take over the joja store after you drive it out of business and keep pierre sweating until eventually her superior business leads to a buyout. she turns his store into an art gallery for leah, who provides an actual unique appeal to the town. she lets pierre and his family stay there because they do a good job of keeping the area maintained and she recognizes the value of the women's wednesday workout group, and it's not like pierre has to work for a while after the buyout. sandy appoints shane the manager of the new store and fucks off to plot further entrepreneurial expansion. that's when it turns out the yoba statue is actually maintaining a psychic link to an elder god that awakens and drives the entire valley to insane blood-cult practices.

To be fair, the game does show that the only reason Pierre isn't doing the same poo poo Joja does is because he physically cannot. If we was in charge of this branch of Joja and Morris had his own general store in town, they would act the exact same.

As established in his 8-heart event, Shane raises chickens in the barn at Marnie's place. If you marry him, he stops going to Joja even if it is still open, but keeps a coop on your farm. He's fine without Joja. E: SexyBlindfold posted:I've been very slowly taking a stab at pixel art and figured I'd start by redoing some Stardew Valley sprites. I want to write a story that starts with the usual cosmic horror setting, but when the Cultists win and summon the elder god, he goes "gently caress off, it's the cosmic equivalent of 2am", splats them and goes right back to sleep.
