There used to be interest in "who will finish the season in the top 5? The top 10?" There were multiple storylines happening throughout the field and everyone had something to gain/loose. Now the system is only to determine a champion: if a driver isn't in the top 2-4, they might as well pull over. That's why when a driver dominates a race now that it's more boring than it used to be: because there's literally nothing of consequence happening with the other 42 cars on the track to fill the time. None of it matters so it's boring. That was why I actually liked the Top-35 rule (though I think they should have made it a lower number). There used to be 43 drivers racing 42 other drivers, not 42 drivers trying to beat Jimmie Johnson. ![]()

Watched the ESPN broadcast of the 2000 Sears Point race the other week and was surprised how many different drivers the broadcasters talked about and/or showed. By the end of the race, even though Jeff Gordon won just about uncontested, you left feeling like you knew what happened to just about everyone in the field. I'm once again eager to blame the broadcasters for this, but the rules really are to blame as well. LASTCAR fucked around with this message at 23:45 on Jul 19, 2016 |

The charter system is JO material for those guys back in the mid-2000s who would constantly complain that start-and-parkers were ruining NASCAR.

I don't watch much of NASCAR after the first 2 months. I get bored watching it on TV and there is so much to do outside instead. Why do I get bored? I'm not really 100% sure, but I know that the first 80% of the race doesn't really matter because NASCAR constantly resets the field with the wave arounds, lucky dogs, and caution flags that don't need to thrown. It's pretty rare that the top 15 guys are not on the lead lap at the finish, and that makes most of the race pointless to me. I still hang around and read the NASCAR thread of course.

Potential new title sponsors for Cup:quote:In October 2015, SportsBusiness Journal indicated that the following companies had been pitched on the title sponsorship: Panasonic, LG, Coca-Cola, Goodyear, Comcast and Hisense, with Hisense showing the most interest at that time. Hinese would fall into the latter, international category described by O'Connell.(Forbes)(7-19-2016) NASCAR has apparently courted a couple companies for title sponsorship to replace Sprint only to do this: quote:It's expected he would paint a rosy picture but sources have confirmed some companies have actually been declined by NASCAR because it wasn't a good business decision. Harveygod posted:A decade and a half. With Stewart and Gordon gone, who's even left? The fan vote Top 10 (alpabetical order) with one week left to vote last year: #18-Kyle Busch #19-Carl Edwards #4-Kevin Harvick #48-Jimmie Johnson #5-Kasey Kahne #20-Matt Kenseth #10-Danica Patrick I think Danica was 3rd one year behind Jr and Gordon.
