That's a darn good fight, but it's not the best Dustin fight (#2 probably). It's also probably the best fight among all Max fights, but it's not Max's best fight (probably #3?)

Maybe the second-best rematch of all time though.

Best rematch is Lawler-MacDonald 2 because it's the greatest fight ever.

The best Poirier fight is vs TKZ.

Max had more entertaining fights against Ortega and Kattar, but those were so one-sided that they were not "good fights."

i love the fight but it had such a clear dynamic of these guys both have elite skills but poirier has a decisive physical advantage. it's kind of amazingly impressive from holloway that he was still able to come back in the fight and beat up poirier a bit even though it felt like someone with a ball peen hammer fighting someone with a sledgehammer.

We have fights this weekend

Also Lightweight Austin Hubbard (-172) vs Dakota Bush (+160)

Disclaimer for gamblers – I am not a gambler. I talk about odds, but I use them as a talking point. When I highlight an underdog I’m not endorsing any kind of bet. Rather, I’m asserting that a fight looks more competitive to me than the betting line suggests. You’re responsible for your own decisions.

UFC on ESPN Whittaker vs Gastelum Breakdown

:siren:Main Event Middleweight Robert Whittaker (-250) vs Kelvin Gastleum (+266)
Cool fight. Former champ Robert Whittaker continues his campaign back to the title. In 2020 he took one-sided decisions over Darren Till (5 rounds) and Jared Cannonier (3 rounds). Whittaker. His only loss going back to February 2014 is to Israel Adesanya, in fact, an October 2019 KO. He’s a great high-action kickboxer and counter-wrestler. His fights with Yoel Romero are some of the coolest fights you’ll ever see. Gastelum is also a former welterweight and TUF winner, but his recent record hasn’t been as good. Gastelum actually comes in as a replacement for Paulo Costa. He took a fairly easy decision over Ian Heinish in February, but before that he lost to Jack Hermansson (heel hook), Darren Till (SD) and Izzy (UD). Gastelum is a crisp boxer with good wrestling and a great RNC that we haven’t seen in a long time.

Whittaker should be able to win this comfortably if it’s the same version of him that we saw run through Cannonier.

Lightweight Jeremy Stephens (-123) vs Drakkar Klose (+120)
Stephens is the most overrated striker in the UFC imo, but he’s also the only fighter who might be on track to ever pass Jim Miller for most UFC appearances: this is his 34th, and he’s 34. Stephens really needs a win though, as he moves back up from featherweight for the first time since 2013 (ignoring the times he missed weight), and he’s winless in his last 5. Calvin Kattar flattened him with some big elbows in May 2020. Klose is the kind of midcarder who Stephens should have been fighting for the last forever, anyway. He’s a kickboxer with a 5-2 UFC record and zero UFC finishes. He has wins over some good guys like Bobby Green and Lando, though, so he might be able to outpoint Stephens. Dariush KOed him in March 2020, though, so Stephens might be able to put him away with a good connection. Maybe look at those odds, though.

Heavyweight Andrei Arlovski (-133) vs Chase Sherman (+132)
Arlovski makes his 21st walk… in his second UFC tenure, for his 35th total. poo poo, he could catch Miller, too. He’s 2-1 in his last 3, getting caught in a scrambly-rear end RNC vs Tom Aspinall in February. Chase Sherman has a terrible nickname, but he’s a big strong dude with pretty good skills for heavyweight. Sherman had a really crappy first UFC run, but he returned in May 2020 with a TKO of Ike Villanueva (moving up from 205) and vowed not to take any more short notice fights. 4 of Sherman’s 6 losses are by KO.

Middleweight Abdul Razak Alhassan (-283) vs Jacob Malkoun (+260)
Malkoun is that Aussie grappler with 5 fights who got smashed up real bad by Phil Hawes some time back. We didn’t even get a chance to see anything out of him, in fact. He just got punched and fell over and that was it. Alhassan has finished 100% of his wins by KO (incl. Niko Price). In November 2020 he got loving flattened by Khaos Williams. He’s moving up from welterweight here, though. We also hate him because he is an alleged rapist.

Lightweight Luis Peña (-139) vs Alexander Munoz (+128)
Peña is “Violent Bob Ross” and the UFC really wants to push him for some reason, but I don’t think he’s really that good. He’s a really lanky guy who does lanky guy stuff and frowns a lot. We saw him get guillotined in June 2020 by Khama Worthy, bringing his UFC record to 4-3. Alex Munoz is the wrestling coach for TAM and he comes into this with a 6-1 record, his lone loss being a decision to Haqparast in August. He has a DWCS win over Nick Newell.

Bantamweight Ricardo Ramos (-105) vs Bill Algeo (+103)
Ramos is a Dana White Lookin For A Fight product, now best known for a spinning back elbow KO of Aiemann Zahabi. He’s 5-2 in the UFC, most recently getting stopped by Lerone Murphy (?). Bill Algeo had a good fight where he came up short against Ricardo Lamas in what proved to be Lamas’s retirement fight. He then went on to take a decision win over Spike Carlyle. This is apparently Algeo’s bantamweight debut.

Prelims
Flyweight Tracy Cortez (-250) vs Justine Kish (+231)
Justine Kish has had a rough UFC run. She was first known as the Russian kickboxer who blew out her knee on TUF when the division was launching. And then she became the lady who pooped herself in a loss to Felice Herrig. Now she’s coming off her first ever stoppage loss, RNC3 to Sabina Mazo, and is 1-3 in her last 4. She’s being offered up to Tracy Cortez, who is an 8-1 DWCS product with a 2-0 UFC record. The x-factor here is that Cortez seems to have flirted with Bantamweight, so who knows if she’ll be big or drained.

:siren:Heavyweight Alexander Romanov (-126) vs Juan Espino (+126)
The Tsar is back! Romanov is a big ol Moldovan chonkster who might be an Actual Good heavyweight but we’ll see. He’s 13-0 with wins over Marcos R de Lima and Roque Martinez, both by submission. He’s a wrestle-and-maul type of fighter – just gets on top and donkey kongs dudes and then grabs a limb and beasts it off (he has 3 wins by forearm choke, several by neck crank, and a slam). His fight vs Lima was actually a Technical Submission by forearm choke. Good times! Espino is a Spanish heavyweight who won a season of TUF and seems to fight like once every decade since then. He’s 40 now and 2-0 in the UFC with wins by Scarf Hold and Straight Armlock. Yesssss. Good fight, especially for those of us who like grappling.

Strawweight Jessica Penne (+241) vs Lupita Godinez (-265)
Penne was supposed to fight Hannah Goldy but covid so she draws Lupita. The former Invicta Atomweight champ and UFC Strawweight title contender Penne has been out for a while because of some stanky pee problems. She is 1-3 in the UFC. She’s primarily a grappler. Godinez is an undefeated LFA champion with a win over Vanessa Demopoulos, which I’m sure I saw, and I generally remember it being a decent fight even if I can’t think of specifics. She is a short notice replacement here, though.

Middleweight Gerald Meerschaert (+116) vs Bartosz Fabinski (-126)
Meerschaert is our saxophone-playing grappler who got KOed by Khamzat in 17 seconds. He is definitely a mid-to-low card middleweight with some kinda respectable wins (Trevin Giles probably his best) but no losses to anyone who isn’t at least pretty good. Fabinski is a polish fighter who has a roughly 4-2 UFC record – I say roughly because he beat Darren Stewart at Cage Warriors 113, but that was supposed to be a UFC fight that they moved to the CW card because of covid. He got armbared in the first round his last time out. He’s a forgettable middleweight, too.

Bantamweight Zarah Fairn Dos Santos (+122) vs Josiane Nunes (-118)
I don’t know who these people are. Oh wait, yes I do. Nunes is the French fighter who lost to Megan Anderson and Felicia Spencer. She’s not very good. Josi Nunes is a 6-1 Brazilian, and every one of her wins with a recorded method is stoppage by strikes. Her lone loss is to Taila Santos, who we saw take a solid decision win over Gillian Robertson in December.

Bantamweight Tony Gravely (-300) vs Anthony Birchak (+280)
Birchak had a fight cancelled recently? Oh he was supposed to fight Johnny Eduardo. Birchak is a journeyman who KOed Joe Soto, then got eaten by the good version of Thomas Almeida, and then bounced around in the hinterlands for a while, coming back for a covid fight where Gustavo Lopez RNCed him (beautiful submission by the way) in the first round. Tony Gravely is not the guy who I thought he was at first. He’s 1-1 in the UFC, coming from DWCS. He has a split decision win vs some guy.

Lightweight Austin Hubbard (-172) vs Dakota Bush (+160)
Hubbard is a prospect who turned out to be merely ok. He was the lfa lightweight champion but has alternated wins and losses to a 2-3 UFC record since then. He got RNCed by Joe Solecki (who we saw beat Jim Miller last week) in August. Dakota Bush is not the gay-for-pay porn star who KOed Johny Hendricks in a bareknuckle boxing match. I repeat: Dakota Bush is not the gay-for-pay porn star who KOed Johny Hendricks in a bareknuckle boxing match. He’s an 8-2 LFA guy who won a fight in January by first round head kick.

Its nuts, consider poirier always had the option to wrassle, but he didn't even have to. He's so much more well rounded, he just got better and better. Another few paydays (He should fight the worlds largest WW, Nate Diaz.) and he can have a nice retirement.

McGregor on the other hand speedran becoming a has-been. Its remarkable. Another MMA first? I mean quitting for years and partying and raping people isn't going to make you a better fighter, though it does get you into plenty of fights. Giga-ringrust. Existential ring-rust. I do wish he'd disappear at this point.

Conor tweeted something this week that Dustin was a little bitch for shelling up and throwing low kicks, so it doesn't matter how Conor could get stopped, whatever method employed will be dishonorable and only used by cowards and charlatans.

in his ongoing canonical litany of the conorverse, conor's never lost a fight, basically

the old days don't count because he wasn't serious about fighting yet, and nate doesn't count because he was three times conor's size and then conor beat him anyway so it was obviously an unfair fluke, and khabib doesn't count because "that's not how real men fight" and it only counts as a loss if you do it through strikes, and dustin doesn't count because calf kicks are cowardly and conor hadn't fought in a whole year so it was really just about ring rust

Basically Conor realizes the most important thing to retaining his fanbase and thus bargaining power is doing that thing everyone's cottoning onto now where if you just never, ever admit any kind of personal fault about anything whatsoever everything's great forever and nothing ever goes wrong
