Edit: Okay, I did avoid that "Fill in the pattern" puzzle on the boat in Lurelin Village this time around, but I'm almost certain I've done that one on a previous playthrough with Octorok Balloons and a Korok leaf.

I was having a hell of a time getting that to work on my playthrough, but somewhere in the hills in the jungle to the west there's a pond with a metal door at the bottom, so I spent several minutes magnesising that back to Lurelin to use as a ramp.

Then I spent another good 30 seconds telekinetically beating the bejeezus out of that korok with a giant metal door.

There’s one korok puzzle I’ve yet to figure out. It’s on the hills near Kakariko village. The mask pointed me towards 3 apple trees and... that’s it. I can’t figure out what I’m supposed to do. I’ve tried picking the apples and cutting them down.

You make the trees all have the same apples in them, both number and placement

I have. There's plenty to choose form at https://gamebanana.com/games/5866 although most are cosmetic. There's a big ol' game balance rework that tweaks pretty much all the stats on everything (to make the game harder and more interesting), which you may or may not like.

There are also basic "cheat" mods like infinite durability if that's what you're looking for.

Aren't those pretty rare, though? Of the 450 or so Korok Seeds I've done on my current playthrough, I must have done a few dozen "Roll the rock into the hole/target/goal" Korok Puzzles, and maybe two of them have required any use of Stasis to accomplish it. All the others have worked with Link just shoving the rock in the general direction, and the roll path took care of the rest.

Referring more to the ones where you have to huck a rock into a ring of other rocks out in the water somewhere, but the ring is too far away to just throw it. e: also any of the ones where you have to get the big rock up a hill rather than being able to push it down

Probably can cheese them with cryonis somehow but finagling the pillars and trying to carry/throw a rock across them seems just as obnoxious as stasis golf so I skip all of those unless the ring is within easy toss distance.

I think my favorite ones are the archery balloons despite being sort of a waste of arrows + bow wear and tear, I just really enjoy doing the target shooting.

Sometimes you can build a runway of cryosis blocks to get it there. gently caress stasis golf in general, though - it provides really lovely feedback on how far anything is going to launch, and you're chewing up your weapon supply while you putter around with it

The very final seed I got was the one that requires you to stasis golf a boulder down an incline then back up a hill in Akkala Wilds - but only after you fight the silver Lynel nearby it. I wasted several weapons on it the first time and probably took at least ten minutes because I kept launching it into orbit. On the bright side, the shrine involving stasis golfing orbs was a cakewalk after I had broken so many hammers and broadswords in Akkala earlier. :v:

Knowing that 1h/2h weapons, bomb explosions, and arrows add very different levels of kinetic energy to stasis’d objects is definitely something I would have liked to have had spelled out for me explicitly. It’s noticeable if you fool around with stasis a bit, but I didn’t use stasis nearly as much as I should have my first time through the game.

was just reading some stuff about korok seeds to see if there were any really REALLY obnoxious ones I was forgetting about and someone mentioned using octo-balloons on those big non-magnetic panels you have to lift off of things instead of stasis-ing them :monocle:

The other day I also had a moment like that when I was trying to remove some of those non-magnetic boulders in the water around the big waterfalls in the Faron area (the ones where there are like 4 pillars and a boulder and a wooden chest pinned under the boulder) and I'd assumed you have to stasis those but nope there is actually room for an ice pillar to lift them off the chest, I thought the stone pillars were in the way so I was doing it the hard way the whole time :cripes:

Ah, fair enough. I do the cryonis platform thing and had never even considered using Stasis for the rock circles in water because as bad as the aiming on throwing rocks is, my aim with Stasis has generally been a /lot/ worse.

If you are doing the Korok thing, Zeldamaps.com is almost a necessity.

If you are zoomed all the way in on your map on your console, the korok seed icons you've done show up. So then I recommend you activate hero mode and trace your steps and note down where you've collected them, but also notice where you haven't been.

Is there a reliable way to get ancient cores? I'm on my second game, and both this game and last, the limiting factor on upgrading the ancient armor was ancient cores. Ironically, I don't usually have trouble getting enough giant ancient cores, so once I get the armor pieces to level three, I can usually immediately get them to level four. It's just getting from 2 to 3 that's hard.

I swear, for every 20 guardians I kill, only like 1 will give me an ancient core.

it feels like my luck with cores really comes and goes. I'm in a dry spell right now but the other day was getting tons of them, even had a stalker drop 2 normal cores plus a giant one all in one pile which was very exciting. I usually don't bother to save scum for them because it's tedious but if you need one in a hurry that's probably the best way or there's that merchant who sells ancient parts wandering around on the road to Hateno Village somewhere -- he has 1 normal core when it's raining.

I had wondered at one point if it made any difference in how you killed them since it seemed like all the ones that dropped cores had been ones I chopped the legs off and killed with the master sword vs shield parry or ancient arrow but it apparently doesn't matter at all, the drop % is all the same. You do get more small bits from chopping the legs off at least.

Speaking of merchant rain inventories I always forget to check when it's raining but some of them have way better stuff. The arrow guy who wanders around near Outskirt Stable has the x10 bundles of normal arrows instead of just the x5 ones plus elemental arrows and he's pretty easy to find since he doesn't travel very far from the stable. Unlocking more merchants to buy arrows from is like the driving force through the early part of the game for me lol. I really don't understand the restock cap either, why does it matter if I have a zillion arrows already just let me buy more of them.

If you don't particularly care about getting them in a legit manner, there's a glitch where you drag a Guardian corpse out of it's spawn area and it will spawn infinite guardian parts.

The setup is a tedious 15-20 mins, and you need to be careful not to trigger a crash, but from an "investment/reward" angle, it can't be beat.

I got every single Korok seed. It took about forty hours. Using the amazing power of computers, I made myself a map that indicated the path I should take to get to the next closest seed. Here's a sample:

If I had just been using a regular map without lines, it probably would have taken me ten times longer to get all the seeds.

When I completed my long route, I ended up with 899/900 seeds, and I had to compare my map against the in-game map, double-checking to make sure I didn't miss a circle that closely overlapped another one. I found it after about an hour. Still not as frustrating as the seed on the roof of the hut in Lurelin Village.

I don't regret spending so much time on this. I saw some out-of-the-way places that I never visited in 100 hours of regular play, and some of the korok puzzles were pretty fun. (gently caress those "throw the rock into the ring in the water" ones, though, they're miserable even with cryonis sleds).

I remembered it being kind of a pain in the rear end to collect stealthfin trout when I needed a bunch for an upgrade, so last night I decided I'd swim the entire way around Lake Mekar and fish along the way. Started with 8 or so trout in my inventory, ended up with 102 and had even let a few go because they were too close to the mist and I was tired of getting teleported and they wouldn't come to a lure. So if you're having trouble finding them, that's where they are just tune your sensor to them so you don't miss the groups.

I tried, but I couldn't keep my balance while walking up. In the end I got it by tying Octorok bladders to the rock, then stasis-ing it when it reached the right height, then shooting it with one or two bomb arrows. Fortunately I had accumulated 150+ of them over the course of the game, so I had plenty of tries to get the angle just right.
