Warbringer are really god drat boring. The last good thrash album I heard was "Forbidden World" by Antichrist. Just listen to this poo poo and ignore the terrible logo and album cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6quoHbwDcfA And while we're on the subject of awesome thrash, you can never go wrong with classic Dark Angel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dIAqOEbaQU

Have any of you gentlemen ever listened to the band "Design the Skyline"? Well, Wikipedia lead me to it, and I've been trying to kill myself ever since: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViSZI6UJEUQ It's like a soundtrack to Myspace

Its funny, I had the beginning of a mantic ritual song as my ringtone(it starts with some weedily weedily guitar part that sounds like a ringtone). I was talking with the guitarist from Mantic when he was in Chicago playing with Lich King, in the middle of a convo my phone starts ringing. Thats gotta be a bit of an ego boost when your talking to someone and their phone rings with a song you wrote. I've been going through some of the older albums in my collection and I happened to give Origin by Borknagar another spin. Though not strictly a "metal" release, it's a pretty amazing showcase of the versatility of the band. Here's a pretty cool reworking of Oceans Rise from their 1998 album, The Archaic Course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXLGZAHHUvc

I'm going to have to check them out. Are recommendations for bands that have this sound but with clear vocals?

In boston the only choice you have is between C-rate metalcore or toughguy hardcore. Once Toxic Holocaust left this city there is no reason to go to a show anymore unless a big name comes through on a tour.

That's not entirely true, but what does hurt is the lack of venues. There are sparse few left that have metal shows at all.

Ah, I still wouldn't complain in Chicago though, would be nice if there was less thrash, but we still have a bunch of good local death metal and other stuff. Stuff like Morgue Supplier, Cardiac Arrest...Cianide played a small bar here last year, occasional Gorgasm show, the list goes on. Theres also plenty of decent venues, and its incredibly rare a tour doesnt stop here(if this isnt one of the few stops, like Sacred Reich played a Chicago show and nowhere else last year).....I have no place to complain, but the thrash kids just get annoying after a while. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmpBRB_yQrM

I dunno what you people are complaining about. I live in the middle of nowhere, and I have to rent a car and drive 6-8 hours to see a show. Any show. Having a day job makes that virtually impossible.

If there is only one good thing that losing my job back in August has given me it is a shitload of time to get into shows I want to see (for free) and work on music. Sure, unemployment sucks balls, but it really could be a whole hell of a lot worse.

Snow Axe posted:It feels phoned-in as hell, especially the drum programming. Last time I felt like this listening to Fear Factory was when Transgression came out. I guess losing guys like Stroud and Hoglan hurt a lot more than I thought it would. I miss Herrera and Wolbers more, and Arkaea doesn't really do it for me. Been a FF fan since SOANM, and maybe it's just that I'm getting tired of their sound after - holy poo poo - 20 years now, but I've felt like their last few albums were pretty lackluster. Maybe all the lineup changes and splits and hiatuses have hurt their creativity, but I haven't really enjoyed an album since Archetype. I know they'll never put out anything that comes close to Demanufacture, but Archetype is easily my second favorite, and everything since hasn't been up to par. I think it's also fair to say they've gotten predictable. Almost every album has several of the following: Pounding rapid-fire intro song, slower ballad-ish song around mid-album, short segue track, long-rear end atmospheric ending track, a cover or two, and thematic elements of man being replaced by machines and futuristic warfare. I'll still check out everything they release, but the last few albums haven't gone into my rotation, while some of the earlier ones still are after many years.

Obsolete was the last time Fear Factory squeezed out anything different (and barely), but really Soul... and Demanufacture are the only two albums worth a poo poo.
