Directed by: David Cronenberg Starring: Jeremy Irons, Jeremy Irons, Geneviève Bujold Screenplay by David Cronenberg and Norman Snider. Less of the mutant makeup, more of the emotional freakouts. Restraining himself from bio-punk appendeges and gross physical transformtions, Cronenberg turns his brand of horror inside, horribly scarring the psyches of his twin protagonists (Jeremy Irons in an amazing dual role,) charting their descent into sex, drugs, jealousy, depression, madness. Something terrible lurks beneath the film's subdued exterior, and the gynecological fixation only grows more unsettling as the story progresses. Probably viewed as Cronenberg's most "mature" work, it's great but I still felt wanting for the fleshy mutations usually found in his stuff. This movie creeped me out to no end. I would never ever want to watch this movie with a woman in the room. But I liked it.

A beautiful movie. Ties with Shivers and Videodrome as my favorite Cronenberg movie. The best acting and cinematography of any of his work. Jeremy Irons was brilliant. But like C. Cardigan said, if it were a little less "restrained" it would be simply incredible. I wanted a bit more visceral horror, like those scary as poo poo gynecological instruments for mutant women.
