Directed by: Walt Becker Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Tara Reid Van Wilder has been in college for 7 years. He has no intention of graduating. He also happens to be the most popular person on campus. That is the premise of Van Wilder. The story follows Van (Reynowlds) and his quest to stay in college after his father stops paying tuition. Gwen Pearson (Reid) is a reporter for the school paper who is assigned the task of getting his story. Reynolds delivers a fine performance, and Van Wilder is probably one of my favorite characters. His cocky attitude and brilliant comedic timing really bring the character to life. Coupled with his stoner room mate Hutch (the Real World's Teck Holmes) and virginal personal assistant Taj Mahal Badalandabad (Kal Penn), they come up with the idea for Van to throw parties for money in order to keep him in school. Many wacky hijinx ensue, and there is much hilarity. This is a film I can watch at any time, regardless of how long it has been since I last saw it. Beware the pastry scene if you are prone to vomiting. RATING: 4.5 PROS: High and low brow comedy, amusing visuals CONS: Predictable plot, very disgusting scene (I nearly vomited) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: http://imdb.com/title/tt0283111/

I came here to study the great American art of muff diving. To smack clam, munch rug, dine at just one American pink taco stand! You know, I wanted to, how is it, park the porpoise. You know? I want to take it through the car wash, baby. And get it waxed. I want to wax it. Wax it! You know, and air dry. This movie was pretty funny, although the pastry scene did make me really, really sick. The makeout scene with the admissions lady was pretty sick too. But other than that.. Ryan Reynolds did a great job, and I'm surprised that I haven't been seeing him in more movies.

Although I didn't enjoy this movie as much as the previous posters (4.5/5 for this? come on, the directors themsevles know that this is way too giving), it actually isn't that bad. It is what it is; and that is a teen comedy, however it is done better than lots. It is a very original film, especially in its premise...I suppose National Lampoon still has some tricks up their sleeves. The premise is original, but it works out to be very similar to all teen comedies (getting the girl), but is also very funny and original in its humor masturbating the dog...comic genious . I'm not going to go too high, but this movie deserves an above average rating. 3.5/5
