They sure look ripe to me.
As stated, very good and very well-made, but certainly not as good as had been described to me. There are a lot of weird plot elements in this movie, (seriously, I know it's a movie, but where are the police?) and I think it may range a little into the "hosed-up for the sake of being hosed-up" objections that I have to most Takashi Miike films. I mean, I didn't really feel like I got anything out of it when it was done, just a bit...numbed.

That sounds worse than it is. Certainly, this movie is nowhere near in a league with Miike's work, and it is a very good story. I can honestly say I haven't seen one quite like it in any other movie. The way the director presented it really interested and impressed me. Overall, I'm giving it 4 stars. Very interesting and well-done. And yes, the fight with the hammer is exceptionally good.
