Certified Motorized Wheelchair Racer
Directed by: Rob Minkoff
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Terrance Stamp, Jennifer Tilley, Nathaniel Parker

Fun. This movie was made to be a fun movie to watch for family entertainment only. No deep meanings, no aiming for oscar nominations for anyone in the cast.
The comedy level is strictly limited to that of the Disney ride at the park and, while Eddie Murphy does shine in spots, for the most part the humor is strictly defined by the limits of the script [which was limited by the ride itself]. With this in mind the movie works on the level for which it was intended. Pre-teen kids who love the ride at the park will revel in this movie, and parents can watch it without being bored to tears or feaked out by ultra violence, ultra sex and ultra foul language that is so common to most films these days. They will have to watch out that little kids do not get overly frightened by the corpses come to life scenes though, and people with easily frightened kids may want to keep their hands on the fast forward button on the remote or be prepaired to do some 'it is only a movie and none of it is real' expaining during and after the show.
There is a mix of action and romance, spookiness and campyness that keeps the movie going from start to finish on a movie version of the ride itself. Some smooth parts, some jerky parts, some bumpy parts and a few dead areas while the ride moves from one area to the next. It does have its surprises though, who can resist the crystal ball lady who comes across as a supernatural version of a 'in your face, but has a kind heart' cross between a old time mob movie moll...and an escapee from a Marx Brothers film? Not this viewer.
If you want a film for kids, or the kid in you that loves Disney park rides, buy or rent this one and you won't regret the money spent.
The movie gets a five for hitting the mark on entertaining the target audience.

RATING: 5

PROS: Family movie with different levels that can appeal to different ages
CONS: Little kids can be frightened by the really realistic corpses

NOOOTHING!
Not a very good movie by any stretch. At times, it painfully worked in elements of the amusement park ride, and at others it drudged along with its uninteresting story.

This was loud and brash but neither funny nor scary. Eddie Murphy and the rest of the cast sleepwalks through a dull and unfunny script. Terrence Stamp turns in a absolutely horrible performance which is a shame. The set design and special effects weren't bad though, and it was nice to spot the references to the ride. But overall this is a below average cash-in which isn't even an amusing time-filler.
