"Something witty."
Directed by: Jackie Chan
Starring: Jackie Chan, Alan Tam, Rosamund Kwan

Jackie Chan puts on the Indiana Jones hat for his 1987 action-adventure flick Longxiong hudi, alternatively known as Armour of God, or Operation Condor 2: The Armour of Gods in those territories that saw the sequel Operation Condor released first.

As usual Jackie plays Jackie, formerly a member of the successful pop group "The Losers" who now makes a living as "Asian Hawk", an infamous fortune hunter who stole the legendary Armour of God a long time ago. However, when ex-bandmate/girlfriend Lorelei (Rosamund Kwan) is taken hostage and held for ransom by a mysterious cult, he must succumb to his former best friend’s (Alan Tam) wishes to give them the Armour of God in order to get her back.

Armour of God was the second Jackie Chan movie I ever saw, and back then I found it rather exciting. However, several years on and having been exposed to many of Jackie’s better films Armour of God has definitely lost it’s lustre, revealing a film that often drags along, bogged down by flat humour, dull sequences and the constant bickering between the two leads.

However, the film is still far from a total loss with some thrilling stuntwork (watch the bloopers for the stunt that almost killed Jackie and left a hole in his head) and some great but sporadic fighting, the highlight being a confrontation that pits Jackie against a gang of stiletto and afro-wearing amazon women. And Lola Forner, playing the sharpshooting daughter of the Armour’s current owner, isn’t too bad to look at either.

In the end Armour of God is a generally average Jackie film with some good action that might prove to be a satisfactory movie fix.

3/5

PROS: Some great stuntwork, Jackie's unintentionally hilarious brick-on-wheels sportscar.
CONS: Dull middle section.
