Are all 110 episodes subbed now? I've only got 10 episodes left of the epic I've been watching and Legend of Galactic Heroes is next in queue, but I don't want to start an unfinished series.

Yeah they have been for years.

The thing is though, it really isn't that long. Especially compared to how much TV people, and probably your friends, already watch.

It's about ~42 hours of show. Nothing to sneeze at, especially for an anime series, but people binge watch longer poo poo all the time. Breaking Bad is around 20 hours longer than LoGH (also a show considered to have a short-ish run for a Drama). 30 Rock had 28 more episodes than LoGH. And there are a lot of people who have watched those shows completely. I guess reading subtitles might wear some people out more than a normal show, if they don't read much or something like that. But for most it shouldn't make a show much tougher to watch.

Each episode being only 20-21 minutes long also helps the time fly by, and the show easier to digest by virtue of being in smaller pieces.

So yeah, it's nothing your average Netflix viewer these days can't handle easily just like they do with their favorite shows all the time. The "it's too long" excuse really doesn't make much sense when you think about it.

110 episodes over 4 30 ish epsiode seasons just feels alot longer to people used to 13 or 10 episode seasons even if it is actually shorter. It doesn't help that while Breaking Bad has what? 15 characters whose name you have to remember, LoGH can have hundreds, which will put off most more causal watchers and people who don't binge.

Also since most people can't understand Japanese you actually have to pay attention to the subs and whats on the TV. This runs completely contrary to the viewing habits of most modern people. Just look at the average TVIV thread to see just how little people actually watch tv nowadays instead of being glued to their drat iPads so they can tell everyone about what they just "watched".

Despite the Western gloss, LoGH is pretty explicitly based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's not an outright remake but definitely a space-themed remix. Yang is Zhuge Liang, Reinhard is Cao Cao, etc. The scene where Minister Silverbirch falls ill and his second-in-command can't keep up with his workload and resigns, only to have Reinhard tell him that if he were as good as Silverbirch then he wouldn't be second-in-command is one of many scenes that are near-direct lifts from parables in RoTK. This (and the character of Yang) makes a lot more sense when you realize that the author of the books is a gigantic Chinese history nerd (check out his bibliography).

I was just going to post this. I'm sure there's a ton of other things based on Chinese history that western fans just don't realize because of the lack of Chinese history education in the west. Although if you wanna compare Reinhard to one western figure I'd say it's Augustus. They both gained power first through Familial connections and then from their own skill. Remade the entire political and social landscape of their empires, and both had best friends that were extremely skilled and loyal to back them up. The only difference is Kircheis died while Agrippa survived for quite a while into Augustus's reign.

To explain about Iserlohn.
Iserlohn Fortress itself is submerged underneath A liquid metal sea. Anti aircraft guns and Ship launch tubes can surface and fire/launch ships than re submerge. Physical munitions and laser weaponry are absorbed and dissipated by the metal sea. Combined with the stationed fleet and it's massive cannon the fortress is nearly impregnable.

The Novels/show also take an absolute ton from the romance of the three kingdoms, and other classics of chinese history. I believe that the author is a specialist in Classical chinese history so it makes sense.

Yeah I don't think it's ever explicitly stated but the plot makes a ton more sense if you assume the empire has been regularly fighting internal rebellions and civil wars. It explains why they have huge fortresses like Geiersburg located outside the Iserlohn corridor, and why Reinhard comes out of the Lippstadt war in such a strong position since the empire is finally directing it's full force outwards.

The empire also has a larger population and resource base. And the FPA crippled themselves in their attempted invasion so it's not surprising that the Empire is able to dominate them militarily afterwards.

The real reason they call him Miracle Yang is because he can make the series last for like ten more books after the Alliance completely ruined its military capacity and economy with that invasion.

When they gave Yang command and he gathered up all the old patrol ships to make a ramshackle fleet I was incredibly hyped that they were still in the game. Then after the alliance falls I just look back and realize that unless Reinhard died the FPA was always hosed. The empire simply had the ability to absorb losses that the FPA didn't. It's fantastic that they still managed to make a compelling story with a united galaxy.

Gaius Marius

Cao Cao lost at red cliffs, but the Jin still succeeded in reunifying china. After astarte the best the FPA could hope for was a return to the Status Quo. They were always the weaker power and they would've lost most of their fleet, their support from Fezzan, and their officer core was decimated by the civil war. Unless the Empire fell into complete civil war the fall of the FPA was an eventuality. Miracles can only get you so far if the Empire can take ten losses for every ship you lose they'll win if they have a hundred times as many ships.

It's probably worth noting that the show is actually pretty good about consolidating it's cast and reintroducing them when needed, you're not gonna get some nobody mentioned in the first episode showing up 100 episodes later unannounced to blow up the FPA capital or something.

Been reading the new Andrew Robert's Napoleon biography and you can see a lot of the maximum goober energy him and Reinhard share. An undeniable skill for inspiring loyalty, convincing everyone from his generals to his infantry that they themselves are writing history, the complete despisment of the monarchy and aristocracy despite it being what led to the being in command, and of course the complete inability to not come off like a socially maladjusted dork whenever in higher society. At least Hildegard wasn't cheating on Reinhard with half the empire and Reinhard didn't spend a quarter of his days writing cringecore letters pathetically exclaiming his undying love.
