Also since most people can't understand Japanese you actually have to pay attention to the subs and whats on the TV. This runs completely contrary to the viewing habits of most modern people. Just look at the average TVIV thread to see just how little people actually watch tv nowadays instead of being glued to their drat iPads so they can tell everyone about what they just "watched".

Although if you wanna compare Reinhard to one western figure I'd say it's Augustus. They both gained power first through Familial connections and then from their own skill. Remade the entire political and social landscape of their empires, and both had best friends that were extremely skilled and loyal to back them up. The only difference is Kircheis died while Agrippa survived for quite a while into Augustus's reign.

The Novels/show also take an absolute ton from the romance of the three kingdoms, and other classics of chinese history. I believe that the author is a specialist in Classical chinese history so it makes sense.

It explains why they have huge fortresses like Geiersburg located outside the Iserlohn corridor, and why Reinhard comes out of the Lippstadt war in such a strong position since the empire is finally directing it's full force outwards. The empire also has a larger population and resource base. And the FPA crippled themselves in their attempted invasion so it's not surprising that the Empire is able to dominate them militarily afterwards.

Then after the alliance falls I just look back and realize that unless Reinhard died the FPA was always hosed. The empire simply had the ability to absorb losses that the FPA didn't. It's fantastic that they still managed to make a compelling story with a united galaxy.

Cao Cao lost at red cliffs, but the Jin still succeeded in reunifying china. After astarte the best the FPA could hope for was a return to the Status Quo. They were always the weaker power and they would've lost most of their fleet, their support from Fezzan, and their officer core was decimated by the civil war. Unless the Empire fell into complete civil war the fall of the FPA was an eventuality. Miracles can only get you so far if the Empire can take ten losses for every ship you lose they'll win if they have a hundred times as many ships.

It's probably worth noting that the show is actually pretty good about consolidating it's cast and reintroducing them when needed, you're not gonna get some nobody mentioned in the first episode showing up 100 episodes later unannounced to blow up the FPA capital or something.

It's amazing seeing how much Liu Bei dick the novel sucks and I still come out thinking Cao Cao was the good guy. Except killing his uncle? randomly after fleeing the court early on. Also lol at the greatest tactician in Chinese history, Zhuge Liang, failing to invade the north five times.

Been reading the new Andrew Robert's Napoleon biography and you can see a lot of the maximum goober energy him and Reinhard share. An undeniable skill for inspiring loyalty, convincing everyone from his generals to his infantry that they themselves are writing history, the complete despisment of the monarchy and aristocracy despite it being what led to the being in command, and of course the complete inability to not come off like a socially maladjusted dork whenever in higher society. At least Hildegard wasn't cheating on Reinhard with half the empire and Reinhard didn't spend a quarter of his days writing cringecore letters pathetically exclaiming his undying love.
