Is there a way to legally acquire this show in Blu-Ray that wouldn't be a loving nightmare? Like, at all? I'm on Episode 49 and after watching Yang and Julian shoot the poo poo about what has happened so far I decided that this show needs to sit in my shelf along with all the other shows that I cherished enough to buy. I love this loving amazing show and I want to actually invest more time in it that I already have.

Also, my drawing skills are slowly returning to form. Soon we'll meet again, Colonel Von Schönkopf. :kimchi:

The only legal way to get this show in Blu-Ray is to buy the expensive Japanese ver which does not have English subs. You are best just downloading from the torrent from the previous post.

The hell is Hidive.

Some new US anime streaming service that could not handle the load of traffic for their inital launch today. Also probably Sentai's attempt of a streaming service.

And, uh, did they subtitle it themselves, or just steal CA's?
And if they did it themselves, are they any good?

I believe Sentai, which has the licenses, subtitle them. And based off of Sentai history, their subtitle for this are probably poor.

So how do I watch this show outside of :filez:? Streaming somewhere?

Also what historical documentaries do I need to watch first to understand the references in this show?

The legal streaming option is HIDIVE.

They have 95 episodes released and will have all the episodes released by February 15th. However, it does not include the 2 movies.

Sentai Filmworks is finally releasing LOGH BD set. They have made a premium only edition that cost $800 and limited to 1000 copies.

No standard edition is planned at the moment for them and no dubs because it is impossible for them.

The fact of the matter is if they wanted to (read: thought it would be worth the investment) they would do it, effects track or no. Outside of a lucrative TV or streaming deal, there's not much reason to think it would be money well spent so I'm not surprised they are going sub only. It's pretty incredible it's coming over at all, though I'm not sure what sort of sales they think they are gonna make with that price point. They aren't bringing a ton to the table aside from "legitimacy".

They are hoping for 1000 as that is how many they are producing and hoping preorders are quick so they can have more.

Also the scummy thing about this is that they charge people right when they preorder so I guess all preorders are final.

The older OVA is streamable on some also-ran of a service whose name escapes me. The new series I'm pretty sure is Crunchyroll only, though I'd be glad to be corrected.

In the US, CR has the streaming license for the new LOGH. The original LOGH is streaming through HiDive.

As most have said, the recommended order is the following:

1. My Conquest Is The Sea Of Stars
2. Overture To A New War (Expands on the first 2 episodes. You can watch LOGH ep 1-2 first and then Overture if you want to see the differences/slight changes made but it is not required)
3. Legend of the Galactic Heroes (episodes 3-110)

Afterwards, if you want more of LOGH, the Gaidens/Spiral Labyrinth. All of those are side stories that take place before the main series.

As for where to watch it, legally it is only available on HiDive, which may only be available in the US.

As for :filez: , there are multiple groups that have done it in multiple format. One was fansubbed a long time ago and one is from HiDive's subs. Also, there are differences in animation between the BD/DVD and laserdisc. The BD/DVD had to reanimate certain scenes and not well due to the original film was lost/damaged. The laserdisc has those original animated scenes but laserdisc quality is not the best.
