Babies.

Directed by: Matt Stone/Trey Parker
Starring: Matt Stone/Trey Parker

I just got back from a Sneak Preview of this movie, and dear God, is it hilarious. Parker and Stone outdid themselves in comedy, effects, and music.

There was honestly never a period of more than a minute without side splitting laughter. Some of the comedy comes from the insanely catchy sound track, with songs such as "America, gently caress YEAH!" and "AIDS AIDS AIDS!" (a mock of the musical Rent).

The effects are amazing, as wherever the team goes, they blow the whole damned city up. These explosions are shown in full glory, which makes you appreciate how hard Matt and Trey worked using only puppets and models. Numerous 'celebrity' guests appear, and are essentially all who are killed are killed in insanely gruesome, yet hilarious ways. Oh yeah, and there is hot puppet sex.

An example of the comedy: (Not a spoiler of plot, but it may spoil the joke)

Two Team America members are trapped in a room. "Fierce panthers" are called upon to maul them. Doors open, and panther noises are heard from inside. Instead, two black cats emerge.

My rating: 5.5/5, one of the funniest movie's I've seen all year. Do yourself a favor: see this movie.

RATING: 5.5

PROS: Absolutely hilarious, over-the-top at many times, intense puppet sex, insanely funny musical numbers
CONS: A bit over the top maybe once, but even then it is funny

What does this do?
I think the songs made this movie as funny as it is. The puppets put it up there, the political comedy elevated, but the songs just pushed it so far past the limit. I don't think there will ever be a movie made that's funnier than this one.

Grrr
drat. You beat me by seconds. Thank God I refreshed the page.

I thought it was an excellent take on the Hollywood political lobby. In typical Trey and Matt fashion, when they satirize a current situation they tend to put it in a new context. In this case it was the anti-war movement and America's "policing the world." Except there was no Iraq war or Bush commentary for example.

And remember... There are 3 kinds of people. Pussies, dicks, and assholes. The pussies are always being hosed by the dicks, but the assholes are full of poo poo. Sometimes dicks gently caress assholes as well, and the pussies are mad because they want to gently caress the assholes, since they're only 2 1/2 inches away from them. Then the pussies are full of poo poo and become assholes, and then you have your dicks and pussies all covered in poo poo.

I probably butchered that quote.

This is the greatest movie they've ever made and the greatest comedy of the year. It was completely hysterical and had me almost in tears a couple of times.

I loved it almost as much as Pearl Harbor sucked. 5.5/5

This is the greatest comedy in years. Halfway through it was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time, and then it got better. This movie has it all: comedy, action, romance, drama, and ferocious panthers (plus tons of references to other movies). I can't wait to see it again next week when it opens nationwide.

I loved it, my wife hated (the majority of) it. Lots of gross-out humor extreme puke, over-the-top disgusting the dick, pussy and rear end in a top hat monologue and intentionally offensive jokes Freedom Actor's Guild and just plain wonderful sets make it an experience worthy of the uncut DVD which cannot arrive soon enough. While at first glance, a lot of the jokes rely on their vulgarity, one needs to step back and recognize the context of this lampoon and realize that it's right on the money. On a side note, my wife walked out on the movie twice, which she'll write about below.

4/5

Addendum from my wife:

The movie's humor relied on jokes about balls. Viewers who were not young males were excluded from the humor. I was offended by the use of the word pussy as an insult, and a lot of the negative homosexual references. The puppets having oral sex did not make it a better movie, but it might have taught any young male virgins in the audience a few new sexual techniques and positions.

I can see gratitutious puking for free, I don't need to pay $8.50 to watch someone throw up his body weight for three minutes.

I did like the way "Team America: World Police" would go in and destroy an area's cultural icons. I thought it was very representatitive of our current situation, and I appreciated that symbolism.

I went into the movie hesitantly, because I don't like puppets or dummies due to Chucky as well as a Goosebumps novel I read as a child that involved a killer puppet, so they're already grotesque to me.

Why yes a bowl of dicks sounds delicious!
Why would you take your ultra-feminist wife to see any movie ratied over PG? "Offended by the use of the word pussy as an insult" ?? Jesus christ.

Great movie, AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS!

Also, my female friends loved the balls jokes. It didn't exclude them, they just know how to have a wide range in their sense of humor.

HohlerMann, I hope your wife is really good in bed, otherwise she seems like the most boring person in the world, no offense.

Just got back from a sneak preview. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a while combined with some of the best satire. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission. I just came back from the sneak preview and it is probably my second favorite movie released this year, just under Shaun of the Dead and just above Kill Bill Vol. 2. If you've seen either of those movies, you probably liked them, so that should roughly quantify my like of Team America.

It was absolutely hysterical with no memorable missteps, though I wasn't really paying attention to the message (on a few occasions, the audience's laughter obscured the dialogue, like when Alec Baldwin appeared on screen for the first time). I liked all the little visual jokes, like the panthers, and the music cannot possibly be overrated, from AIDS AIDS AIDS to the Pearl Harbor song and everything in between.

I'm going to rate it a 5.5.

I was very suprised. While I love Trey Parker and Matt Stone's work, I really expected this to be nothing more that an hour and a half of "Bush is dumb" jokes. What I got was an hour and a half of offensive, disguising, and gut-bustingly hilarious material. The duo once again managed to throw something together that makes fun of everyone, every viewpoint, and even themselves. The puppet jokes never got old and my only complaint was that I and everyone else were laughing so hard we couldn't hear all of the jokes. It wasn't as political as it was made out to be, in fact it was barely political at all, just funny as hell.

5/5 for being far above my expectations

It was one of the greatest comedies in recent history. Most of the comedy is gross out humour, and a action movie with marrionettes. The movie was almost like a half musical as well. It was sorta annoying that they changed some of the voices, and music though from the original cuts. Can't wait till the unrated DVD version.

What you've seen in the trailers is the first 5 minutes, which i love because that means the rest of the movie is completly new to the audience. I laughed very hard throughout most of the movie, even when some people didn't find some things too funny(Kim Jong ronerry song)

Saw the sneak preview and it was loving hilarious. There was plenty of "gross-out" humor, but there was also plenty of ridiculous jokes and movie parodies too. Before I even saw it I predicted it'd definitely be in the top few movies that I saw this year (especially comedies), and I was right. It was so vile and hilarious that I loved it and will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out.

My only complaint was that while it was definitely hilarious, I think I would've preferred for them to release it next year, which they were planning on doing originally, instead of rushing to get it out now, so they could have put in even more funny parts.

Absolutely loving hilarious. The whole film was great and the humour was just for me, as a fan of South Park. Also, once again, Parker and Stone do not disappoint with the great, and hilarious soundtrack. It's been a while since a film this funny has been released - if you're looking for a comedy there is absolutely no argument for what film you should watch. 5.5/5

SO WHAT THE FUCK
I thought the movie was about thirty minutes too long.

Once the novelty of the puppetry wore off (most of the puppets don't even look like who they are supposed to portray), and the Bruckheimer parody ran its course, you're left with about a half an hour of movie left.

Unfortunately, that thirty minutes is sophomoric filler attempting to outrage everyone, but just succeeds in amusing no one. The right are dicks, the left are pussies, terrorists are assholes. Great. That sentiment was funnier the first time it was uttered, you know, in that scene before the five minute vomitting sequence?

This was no South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut. Very average, not really deserving of all this hype.

Laughed about as much as I did in TAXI.

While I think most South Park fans will be dissappointed because it wasnt south park, Im gonna have to say that this movie was actually pretty drat funny at parts and I appreciate the novelty. I almost saw it as a response to Farenheit 9/11, but on a different level alltogether.

Yes, a good bit of it felt very mediocre but I couldnt help to laugh at how intentionally stupid alot of the stuff was. I cant picture a state of mind of a person who decides to do a movie with puppets, much less one that revolves around calling all of hollywood fags and then killing them all while making a political statement. Its borderline genius, but its no southpark.

4/5 from me.

I'll get right to the point, Trey Parker and Matt Stone's Team America: World Police is the funniest film I've seen this year, and one of the more hilarious movies I've ever seen, period! Who'd have that that a send-up of action movies that cleverly satirizes both America's military cock-swinging and the liberal Hollywood masses that hate it equally well, with puppets, could work so well? The guy that was running the Press screening in Sacramento I attended chuckled after it was over, aware of my non-stop yukking throughout the film, and said, "Well, I know what YOU thought of the movie!"

Of course, if you like South Park, you'll without a doubt love the film. But if you can appreciate a good laugh (or tons of them) you'll find something to love about Team America, too. Taking the cue from the 60s puppet adventure shows (that used the patented "Super-Marionation" process) Team America manages to pull off an action packed comedy completely devoid of actual people. It's a funny throwback to see marionettes dangling on strings giving better performances than the human cast of The Day After Tomorrow did. Just as Parker and Stone are able to breathe life into shoddy construction paper cutouts in South Park, there's brilliant humor and biting commentary with these goofy puppets, as well.

The story involves a team of super-cops who all purport to have special talents to fight terrorism, but when they get into the thick of things, those talents pretty much mean blowing the gently caress out of everything standing, living or dead. In the opening sequence, while trying to shoot a few terrorists in Paris (who use authentic language like "Dirka dirka dirka, Mohammad Jihad!"), manage to destroy The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumph, and just about everything else. It's a not so subtle jab at America's own real-life "Don't worry, we'll save you" attitude.

But unlike Fahrenheit 9/11, which relentlessly attacks our conservative leadership, the liberal "pussies" in the acting community are fair game as well. A virtual who's who of today's hottest actors band together to use their talents to bring peace to the world in their own fashion. And that means becoming unwitting pawns of North Korea's mad dictator Kim Jon Il in the process. I'd love to be at the premieres watching the reactions of Matt Damon, Helen Hunt, Tim Robbins, and Susan Sarandon (who are just a handful of the Hollywood elite within) as their puppet doppelgangers make them look like idiots.

It certainly brings up a good point as to why the media gives actors so much of a voice when it comes to speaking out about current events. As if they have more to say about the war than you or I. Many folks seem to think this is a misguided liberal-bashing movie (including Sean Penn, who isn't spared in this film), but I think they aren't used to a mainstream film that attacks BOTH sides. If you've seen South Park, you know Parker and Stone are equal opportunity offenders.

The jokes never stop coming. I won't tell you about any of them, because they're brilliant and sometimes surprising. Some of them are ridiculously over the top and repulsive, but you're bound to find 10 or 20 things to laugh out loud at, no matter what level your humor sinks to.

And the underappreciated songwriting talents of Trey Parker click on all cylinders throughout the movie. From Kim Jong Il singing, "I'm So Ronery" to the team's anthem, "America, gently caress YEAH!" the tunes are clever and side splitting. It's a shame that the soundtrack doesn't come out until November 2nd, cause I'd love to buy it right now.

Anyway, believe me with this one, folks! I'm ready to see it again!

People are under a lot of stress, Bradley.
It was definitely a funny movie, with all the humor that you'd expect from Matt and Trey, but I was a bit disappointed. I think it took way too long to get going (not enough jokes during the plot exposition), and a lot of the funny jokes were repeated a lot.

Still, it was a good movie, and the soundtrack was awesome.

Speaking of mothers, let me give that oatmeal some brown sugar.
Watched the first half hour or so and hardly laughed except for a few chuckles (south park is much, much, much funnier). Don't know seems like im in the extreme minority here but I really thought it was stupid, and the songs were also stupid and not needed. America gently caress YEAH? That seriously was not even close to funny, but ive always hated the stupid songs that they put in south park, so I guess I would hate them in this movie too.

All in all, i'd still rather watch this than alot of the other poo poo thats out there, but I really didn't see what made you guys think this was so funny.

This movie greatly exceeded my expectations. It was loving hilarious. The over-the-top gore, language, and dick jokes combined with the Hollywood "serious action-flick" (but with puppets) style worked perfectly. Making fun of the liberal Hollywood stars and America being "world police" is exactly the bipartisan viewpoint Stone and Parker have always had in their show "South Park". It's no wonder people like Sean Penn are pissed off by this movie. Hollywood activists like him are ridiculed throughout the movie and eventually maimed and killed.

For those who've seen the movie: There was a scene in the trailer that showed a bunch of the North Korean guards surrounding them in a circle. This scene was not in the movie! I hate it when trailers do that (Like Kill Bill: Volume 2 showing the deleted scene in the theatrical trailer)

I'll admit that this stooped a little lower for some laughs (puke), but it's still hilarious. The music was wonderful (I wanted more of it, especially after the South Park movie) and I really didn't stop laughing the entire time.

That mocking of Hollywood actors was perfect, and I'm so glad that the liberal extreme finally got the mocking it deserved. I'm not saying if my beliefs are one way or another, but anyone can admit that the Conservative end gets a lot more poo poo thrown at it.

Trey and Matt are still at the top of their game here, and the puppet action was brilliant.

Absolutely, without a doubt, the funniest movie I've ever seen. Frankly, if you're taking the puke scene for face value (LOL PUKE IS FUNNIE ^__^), then you shouldn't be rating the movie. The point of a lot of the jokes is to just be ridiculously over the top - pointlessly, even, and it's funny as hell. The bipartisan humor in this was perfect, and some of the people rating this movie need to lighten the gently caress up.

And I still can't remember a time in the past several years that I've laughed harder at anything. Suprisingly, the only people who walked out, walked out during Gary giving head, even though it was off-camera . With all the hype for this movie, I was left with blue balls. I think the material was dry and overused, and the 5 minute puking seen was just retarded. Granted there were some funny aspects, but it just seemed a regurgitation of old South Park parodies. Actually, I would have rather had the South Park kids incorporated into the same storyline, and have the good old South Park cartoon graphics. Doesn't even come close to South Park. Frankly, I think they went down about 4 stars with this move.

I guess I'll vote 4/5, only because there were a few stretches here and there where you were almost starting to look down at your watch. Almost. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long, long time. In fact, I'm really trying to think hard of a movie that I laughed harder at, as a whole.

But then there's those drat moments where you're just about to piss yourself laughing. I literally wept during a couple of scenes, and I'm pretty jaded as to what is funny (drat you, SA!) I mean I really could not open my eyes and had trouble breathing. Yes, the humor is mostly juevenile. Do you turn up your nose at Dumb and Dumber? Don't bother with this movie.

Some highlights:

The puking scene. Holy jesus. It's probably not as funny if you're expecting it. But holy poo poo what a ridiculous spectacle.

The soundtrack. From Team America's power-rock theme: "America! America! gently caress YEAH!" as well as the ballad saying basically "I love you so much, as much as Pearl Harbor sucked". The lyrics go back and forth between describing love and a lovely movie, wtf. And the "We need a montage" song, haha.

The sex scene. If this is the "R" version, what in the world would the NC-17 version have been? I will buy the DVD just to see this.

The celebrity deaths--gory and hilarious.

The dicks, pussies, and assholes speech. Ridiculous and priceless.

The two team members being fed to the "tigers", which were actually a couple of housecats. Compared against the puppets they were the right scale though, so the visual effect was pretty funny.

Oh yeah, the way the terrorists freakin' talked! "Brocka lakka docka? DURKA BURKA DURKA DURKA!!!! "
