Argumentum ad nauseam is the incorrect belief that an assertion is more likely to be true the more often it is heard.
Directed by: Vincente Minnelli
Starring: Eddie Anderson, Ethel Waters, Lena Horne, Rex Ingram, Louis Armstrong

One of the two great black musicals made during World War II (along with the likewise fantastic Stormy Weather, also starring Lena Horne). There's not much I can say about this movie other than giving it my strongest recommendation. If you like musicals, you'll love this, and if you have a heart you'll love it as well. It's way smarter than a lot of other musicals going at the time, and is a hint of how Minnelli was about to turn Hollywood musicals on their head. It's sad to watch this film and realize how many great pre-WWII black Hollywood films must have been lost.

RATING: 5.5

PROS: Amazing cast, touching numbers, a final scene that's total Minnelli brilliance, Duke Ellington being a total badass
CONS: Horne isn't the best actress, but she does give it her all here
