Directed by: Jean-Pierre Melville Starring: Alain Delon, Yves Montand Corey (Alain Delon) is a recently released thief from prison who goes on a revenge mission of sorts before fatefully meeting an escaped convict Vogel (Gian Maria Volonté). The two plan a heist and involve a third member, Jansen (Yves Montand). There isn't a whole lot of dialogue in the film and it was refreshing to see a crime film without stupid banter between the criminals. Also, the police chief (Bourvil) hot on their tail is just as sly as the criminals themselves. The ending was very satisfying, something which has been missing in many of the crime films I've watched lately. The cinematography also gives the film a necessarily gritty feel and employs many blues and dull tones. The pacing of the film is very subdued and gives the film an eerie sense of impending action. Truly one of the better crime films I've seen. RATING: 4.5 PROS: Avoids typical crime film fodder, camerawork, acting CONS: N/A ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065531
