So far, Wrestle Universe is a good purchase. 1 TJPW show and 1.5 DDT shows down so far. It's a little hard remembering so many new names without English commentary, but I'll get there. Excited to check out NOAH next!

Something that helped me first getting into it was to find and follow along with DDT/TJPW English Update's comments on Twitter from when the show aired. They translate all the promos and stuff too. https://twitter.com/ddtpro_eng?lang=en

pretty fucking embarrassing to watch
Dramatic DDT is also a good read; it summarises what happened on shows; is a nice central place to look for upcoming shows plus it has a section for wrestler profiles and one for the smaller promotions which is basically a break down of their history. Its where I tend to go when I'm looking up older DDT/TJPW stuff because its easier to navigate than searching for ancient tweets.

And it seems that this years cage match will be a tag team match between YAMATO and Dragon Kid vs. SB Kento and Kai. Three flags will be on top of the cage, first team to grab two flags wins. Losing team must then have a singles match where the loser loses their mask/hair.

Was Shibata's medical problem due to headbutts being specifically more dangerous than other striking, or was it due to Shibata having a particular vulnerability to that happening? I also think Shibata did headbutts in an average match way more than Kitamiya did in that particular match. But... yeah I do kind of feel a little bit like "no, don't, your brain....." when I see someone do headbutts.

I don't know anything about brains but I remember severe dehydration being cited as a contributing factor to the brain scrambling caused by the headbutts in Shibata vs. Okada.

It was the visual more than anything, shoot headbutt followed almost immediately by a trail of blood coming down the face. Conjures up all those feelings of never seeing one one my favourites wrestle again. It's not as big a part of Kitamiya's style as Shibata's and hopefully he's not dehydrating himself, but the thought always probably be there for me when I see a headbutt like that going forward

When I post the weekly schedule I normally mention if it'll be live or VOD, and if a show isn't live on WU the delay is usually 3 days I've noticed. If it is live then the VOD is usually available within the same day IIRC

One of my all-time wrestling twitter moments is Shunma snitch tagging @Twitter when Chris Brookes said "I'm gonna kill Shuma" which got Brookes banned from Twitter because Shunma has a checkmark

DDT Universe is usually very good at putting most of their shows up right after airing them, sometimes within the hour. The only exceptions would be shows that were airing as a special on TV, those take a few days to pop up

pretty fucking embarrassing to watch
There are a few different types of shows on Wrestle Universe. The main two are shows that air live and with those the VOD is there very quickly: seems like a couple of hours at most which seems reasonable unless they have to do editing to cover things like, say, Shinya Aoki exposing himself on a live show; and the smaller shows from smaller venues that can't support live streaming that easily which air on a three day delay and they are generally very good at hitting that: I can't think of a show I've been waiting for that didn't hit the three day target.

They did start doing accelerated VODs for bigger TJPW Itabashi shows in particular where the show would be up three hours after the show finished but they've not done that for a while and I think its something they'll mainly do for shows where there's a reason why they need to get it up quickly. Finally things like the TJPW PPVs, and a lot of the shows that air first on Abema (NOAH+TJPW shows but weirdly not non-Street wrestling DDT shows for some reason) only go on Universe after they are off Abema or the PPV service: not a massive issue for the latter since Abema is free and not geolocked anymore, and if there's English commentary that tends to be on Universe.

Any matches I should be watching out for on the way?

Kenoh vs Nakajima, Kiyomiya vs Mochizuki, Marufuji vs Sugiura, Nakajima vs Sugiura, Go vs Mochizuki, Go vs Kiyomiya and the final.

I'd also recommend checking the Global Junior League finals from Jan 2020, it has the tournament semis and final and is a chance to see both Dick Togo the wrestler and the amazing consistency of Daisuke Harada, among others

Decided to bite the bullet and go back and watch the whole of the N1 Victory 2020. Noah are still the promotion I feel like I know least in Wrestle Universe, so this might be a good chance to familiarise myself.

That sounds like fun, maybe I'll do the same. I wonder what's the best way to filter this on Wrestle Universe?

What I did was just select Noah from the sidebar and scroll back in their shows to September.

Midway through night 1. It feels like either Inamura was having a bad night or he has improved a lot this year so far. He and Sugiura really did not mesh here.
