You're quite good at turning me on.

I only saw Mishima and Sorcerer for the first time within the last year and they both rule. Brazil is a must buy too, the old 3 disc DVD set was also one of my first Criterions.

Should've released The Wizard instead imo

I bought Sorcerer digitally not too long ago and was about to watch it a few weeks ago before I got interrupted by something and forgot to start it.

The flash sales are for items currently out, right?

All in-print and released discs. The flash sale also coincides with the release date for Godzilla vs. Biollante (4K and Blu) and Chaplin's A Woman of Paris (Blu).

By the way, I'd hold off on any of these titles as they're 99% likely to get a 4K upgrade within the next 12 months:

The Great Escape
The Night of the Hunter
The Killing/Killer's Kiss
Paths of Glory
12 Angry Men
The Manchurian Candidate
Barry Lyndon
Salo
High and Low
Throne of Blood
Army of Shadows
The Double Life of Veronique
Diabolique
The Last Temptation of Christ
Anatomy of a Murder
On the Waterfront
Eyes Without a Face
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

Noir expert Eddie Muller confirmed on a podcast that Criterion is putting out Fritz Lang's The Big Heat. This will likely be a 4K UHD since it's a Sony title and just had a new restoration. It's been out of print from Twilight Time in the US for a while (Indicator's region-free UK Blu has remained in print).

GREAT movie, cool addition to the collection. Hope they include the fun Marty Scorsese introduction from the old Columbia Noir DVD set.

Criterion appears to be letting a lot of DVD-only titles go out of print. Minus stuff that's been OOP for a while, these are the latest:

And the Ship Sails On - 4K restoration in Essential Fellini set
Juliet of the Spirits - 4K restoration in Essential Fellini set
The Horse's Mouth
Mamma Roma - 4K restoration in Pasolini 101 set
Stage and Spectacle: Three Films by Jean Renoir - Raro just released The Golden Coach on Blu
I vitelloni - 4K restoration in Essential Fellini set
Fanny and Alexander (theatrical cut) - Blu-ray includes both cuts and also included in Ingmar Bergman's Cinema
The King of Kings - Flicker Alley Blu-ray coming in April
Tout va bien
Andrzej Wajda: Three War Films - Ashes and Diamonds upgraded to Blu a while ago
The Flowers of St. Francis
Sword of the Beast
Kill!
Shoot the Piano Player - Probably getting a UHD reissue soon, already out in France
Solo con tu pareja
The Burmese Harp - New restoration has been touring, upgrade likely coming soon
Les enfants terribles
Under the Volcano
Death of a Cyclist
The Fire Within
Le plalsir - New restoration already out in UK and France
White Dog
Empire of Passion
Pigs, Pimps & Prostitutes: 3 Films by Shohei Imamura
The Only Son/There Was a Father: Two Films by Yasujiro Ozu - New restorations already out on Blu in UK

Also looks like they're taking Eclipse sets out of print as they sell out. Most of the titles can be seen in better quality on Criterion Channel anyways.

Most of these titles are with Janus, so it's probably not rights, they just aren't bothering to press more copies on DVD. Especially with so many having newer restorations and masters available.

Also quite a lot of titles that had DVDs or were released on both Blu and DVD originally now list only the Blu-ray edition, without even an out of print notice.

Ended up grabbing the 4Ks of Godzilla vs. Biollante, Thief, No Country for Old Men, Paris Texas, and The Wages of Fear. Almost got the 4Ks of The Seventh Seal and 8 1/2, but I think the Blu-rays in the Fellini and Bergman sets are fine for now (especially being from the same restorations).

Which put my just over the points to get a $50 gift certificate... which I'm saving for the fall sale.

Though, I'm realizing how many must-have releases I'm going to have to grab during the July B&N sale. Sorcerer, Killer of Sheep, Brazil, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Anora, Night Moves, The Three/Four Musketeers, and Midnight. Probably will also grab Withnail & I and How to Get Ahead in Advertising, too. And we won't even know what's on the July slate for another month.

Also, I got around to seeing A Woman of Paris and it's a really great silent. Chaplin only made one other film he wasn't also the star of, but it's astonishing how well-directed it is. Almost feels like a Lubitsch. Criterion's Blu-ray includes two versions (24fps with Chaplin's score, 22fps with a re-recorded score), plus quite a lot of extras. Great restoration, considering it didn't seem to survive with as good materials as The Kid or The Gold Rush.

I fell in love with Ozu last year after watching Late Spring and then watched 30+ other films by him in the next 9 months. He is now one of my favorite directors of all time so I’d say it changed my life, in some capacity. YMMV of course!

I didn’t know what to buy, but I was in a panic to use up all the little Criterion Channel $10 off coupons that I had accumulated before they’re retroactively declared void or something, so I just went for comfort watches: Defending Your Life, Cat People, and the I Walked with a Zombie/The Seventh Victim double feature.

Alexander Korda's Private Lives
Chantal Akerman in the Seventies
The First Films of Akira Kurosawa
Basil Dearden's London Underground
Silent Naruse
Aki Kaurismaki's Leningrad Cowboys

Terrible shame about that, as those were the only way to get some of those on physical media. I think they had said Eclipse was on its way out ages ago, but it's still unfortunate.
