Went low and just got: High Sierra The Incredible Shrinking Man Mona Lisa This got me my $50 certificate for points and my girlfriend gave me a $100 for my birthday, so I'll be using those for preorders on The Red Shoes and A Hard Day's Night UHDs instead of having to wait for the late Feb/early March flash sale.

Watched two absolute Criterion bangers this weekend, The Tree of Life and Godzilla vs Hedorah. They basically had the same message, that our children are the unintentional vessels for our sin and conflict can be abstracted to the meaningless encounters between prehistoric creatures.

In addition, it adds in a bunch of childhood contextual scenes that establish his gradual arc towards 'troubled' rather than it just being a sort of reaction moment that bifurcates the film. Important scenes of hosed up neighbors and the aftermath of a tornado are added back in, as well as all the scenes for the youngest brother who was almost completely removed from the theatrical cut. It just flows better as a longer film, everything feels like it has its proper space in relation to everything else rather than having to account for studio whims for runtime, and overall the 'epic' kind of themes it's going for feel well earned. I feel like like The New World just got totally lost in the edit, but Tree benefits so much from a revisit that the theatrical cut isn't watchable to me any longer.
