I forgot about this vid. Here's a pretty bad northeast big block modified crash from a while back, at Fonda speedway. link Most people assume that dirt cars like this are safe, compared to sprint cars and midgets. They are generally more stable and less prone to rollovers, but when they do go over, holy poo poo. This one is a bit more violent than normal. Also note how ridiculously bad the safety workers are. raffie posted:Just came across this feature on two badass hillclimb cars. This is amazing. Ok last nitro vid, I just stumbled on this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeX9mPoC8j0 This one is cool because it shows the switch from alcohol to nitromethane, around 2:10. Nitro is pretty volatile and a cold start on it would do rather interesting things to the engine like maybe add an oil check porthole, or launch the blower for distance. Also, when the mechanic blips the throttle to blow out the last of the alky, look at the violent torque from the rotating mass. These guys back in the day were pretty crazy, I'm not sure I could strap myself in to something that requires the use of a gas mask to drive.

`Nemesis posted:Can someone explain in laymans terms what is going on here? I kind of have an idea, but I'm not sure I would be right. It's a pedal fest. Both cars picked up wheelspin off the line, forcing them to back off. Usually when one car does it he shuts off because the race is over, but every once in a while both cars will and they'll duel each other trying to find grip. It's near impossible to hook back up after a bad launch, so often times they pedal the whole quarter. The amazing thing is the guy who won was on and off the pedal so much, the motor should have failed in a spectacular fashion. He lost a bunch of cylinders, but stayed in it and won. e- here's another example eII - also it was pretty much to show that you can lose traction, with proper tires, on a prepared track. Ya know, which you can't do with street tires on a highway. Seizure Meat fucked around with this message at 13:47 on Aug 23, 2009 |

They showed that dimpled golf balls go about twice as far as non-dimpled ones, so If they could just get the dimpled exterior of the car to spin like a golf ball, I bet they could get even better mileage. If there wasn't a patent on this already and they didn't scoop it up, they are loving retarded.

I drive a Ram with a Hemi and they do indeed sound like that. There are a few other Mopar people around here but we like to lay low because lol Chrysler and whatnot. The current gen Hemi is a wonderful engine and pretty much the lineup that has them (minus SUVs) are nice cars. In regular R/T trim the Challenger and Charger are plenty fun, but neither of them are race cars. They are for burbling through town and doing donuts with. The SRT8 trim also aren't race cars, but they do burble louder and create more smoke when doing donuts. That said there is a growing aftermarket out there and you can do some crazy poo poo to both platforms.
