As far as I can remember, this hasn't been posted yet. But a lot of people know about the James Bond corkscrew jump. The famous photo of the AMC Hornet seemingly floating upside down over a river. Here is a video of the jump from behind the set. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trJocyjCBzo As you can see, everyone was thrilled to see it work the first time. That's right. It was the first take.

(I guess maybe its referring to 2 axiis of freedom for the part and vice in addition to the 3 of the spindle). I think the helmet was later used as a trophy for something. The 4th and 5th axis are the head's ability to tilt and the tables ability to rotate. There are other means of achieving 5 axis though.

Perhaps something to do with hardness?

I had always wondered what would happen if you took a huge rear end compressor and air tank and rigged it up to the intake. You would need a very large flow pressure regular and set it to whatever you wish. Or you could run 250 pounds of boost for 5-10 seconds . Fake edit: blah blah blah its basically NOS but worse. Yea I know. It's just like a leafblower supercharger.

I was going to say, that looks like an engineering fault if anything. Before I even consider anything else, that crank, especially where it broke doesn't look very meaty. I'm sure testing and FEA was done, but under no circumstances should a crank break within the operational envelope of an engine.
