Someone in the Panther megathread said something about air raid sirens and it reminded me of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCivOpWhOP0 Chrysler hemi V8 powered air raid siren from the cold war. IIRC, they reached sound pressure levels of 137dB or so... at 100 feet.

Hell, a lot of guys don't care what year the car is, nor what engine it has, if my years as a lube monkey are anything to go by. I got stared at more times when asking "is it a 4.0L 6 cylinder or a 5.2L V8?" or "4 cylinder or V6?" than I care to recall, and someone told me their 1995 was definitely a 1998 a few months ago. To 90% of the driving public cars are driving appliances that must be begrudgingly repaired and maintained when they cease to move at all.

poo poo That engine needs a rebuild now... see the sparks flying out the exhaust right before he choked it partially? I don't even want to know what those sparks were produced by, seeing as I am reasonably certain that's not a turbocharged DD. If I had to guess, it's rings, which would also explain why it runs away, it's getting plenty of fuel off the walls of the cylinders on every stroke.

Yeah, you can bump start the LD/LDS/LDT-465 (white/continental I6 multifuel used in old US military trucks) going backwards by accident too. It's a real trip until you realize all the gears go backwards except the reverse, then you see smoke coming out the intake stack and realize the oil pump is pushing your lube back into the oil pan and it's time to shut it off ASAP.

The one that pops off and spiral-rockets all over the place @ 7:00 just when the cop parks by the fire and the bystanders start walking forward gets me every time. e: the first time I saw video #1 I'll admit it, I cracked up when the song playing had the lyrics "I wanna scream, and shout, and let it all out" not 5 seconds after the truck crashed and exploded. Then the same lyrics come up again only a few seconds before the next round of explosions. Terrible song, great timing. kastein fucked around with this message at 05:38 on Jul 17, 2013 |

Pretty sure that 232 and a 401 share the same bellhousing pattern, too. And the 401 mount arms might even bolt to the stock motor mount locations. AMC was great like that. place your bets on how many launches the transmission would handle before releasing gear teeth to the winds. I've got my money on 3.

Metric horsepower is the most enraging unit on the planet, at least to a units sperg. It's like someone saw the metric system and said "it's so perfect and symmetrical" and then thought to themselves "we should emulate the absolute worst stupidity of the imperial system and come up with a half assed backwards unit for something we already have" and thus kilowatts weren't good enough, and an oddball unit of instantaneous power, the metric horsepower, was required as well. Not even kidding, it's less logical than the imperial one. Imperial horsepower are at least a whole number of watts. PS/metric horsepower is the turd in the punch bowl. </>

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that IS a flood car. To add to what VikingSkull said - the worst possible thing you can do to a car electrical system is submerge it with the battery connected. Absolute worst thing. Not only does the water wick up inside the insulation for multiple feet (just ask VW, do it right and you can get coolant all the way from the reservoir level sensor to the tail lights! ) if a battery is left connected it significantly speeds up corrosion. I know of multiple Sandy victim vehicles that had the harnesses literally fall apart because they sat in seawater with the battery connected for a few days, there was simply no solid copper left inside the wiring in many spots. Even when it doesn't corrode everything severely, the remaining salt and sludge nestled into the harness attracts moisture, being somewhat hygroscopic, and dirty water/damp salt is quite a conductor. You will never, ever, EVER get all the electrical gremlins out of a saltwater (or even many freshwater) flood car, not without complete replacement of anything with a wire in it. And since it's all saturated deeply into all the pinch welds and under the carpet, you're looking at severe, nearly unrepairable chassis corrosion issues within years, as well. This is why flood cars are crushed, and why I avoided Sandy victims when buying parts at the junkyard during that time period.
