I dont think you average internet posting wrencher could afford that engine build and tool set but they didnt sit there and list parts. They showed some engine porn and said that they built it and talked about their hard work and its what makes Roadkill really unique. That engine seemed to make a lot of power for the setup so there's some $$$$ in it, but they don't talk about it and the net result is a fantastic web series.

Savington posted:Meh. Nordlocks have never worked for turbocharged Miata guys, and we seem to have the worst issues with turbo fasteners. The couple of times I've spoken with turbo engineers about our issues have typically involved statements like "yeah, we've seen that on Formula 2 cars" or "I heard about an Indy car that did that once". We tried VWAG copper lockers and couldn't keep those in place either. The only thing that seems to work for sure is Stage 8's stuff, but even then, the studs on our cars will spin out through the goddamn nut. We have to use aerospace-grade high-temp threadlocker to keep the stud in place, AND use an Inconel stud, AND use Stage 8 hardware, and it still should be serviced once a year with fresh locker and inspected for thread damage in the manifold. Fo3 posted:Looks cool, but I don't understand their point. They are saying other fastening solutions relying on friction are bad, that theirs doesn't rely on friction, but IMO it does. A page late but I am a mechanical engineer on a turboprop (read: high vibration) plane and I deal with the results of, on average, higher Grms levels than space flight vehicle tests on electronics. Agreed with Fo3. To Savington, I know it is spendy but when all else fails, do what aerospace/military does. Loctite is great as is either Safe-T-Cable (fast but $$ for tools) or lockwire (slow but cheap).

I just watched every episode of Project Binky for the first time over the last 3 days. ...I have come to learn that in 3 years they've only made 14 loving videos...and in those 14 videos and 3 years they've not made a car that has any interior, paint, or ability to move under its own power. This is gonna be blueballs forever

I enjoyed the 14 videos tremendously...but man they're worse than man about long projects. It also drives me nuts that they don't sandblast/clean the front and rear subframes and associated Celica parts.

The new top gear (grand tour) has the three of them doing a bit more acting and it is somewhat eye rolling when they do it but I disagree that its worse. I quite like it. Its no Roadkill, but its good.

Aargh posted:Looking at pictures of crashed supercars seems to show the carbon monocoques are significantly stronger than that car though. Its a lot easier to design a steel and aluminum car to be that strong than a CFRP one. The fact that there are supercars designed to go end over end is a testament to their composites, aero and stress engineers. CAT INTERCEPTOR posted:The issue isnt that the roll bar isnt inadequate - at some point all safety equipment becomes inadequate with enough speed/force applied - the point is that it was such a loving flawed design that it makes the crash MORE dangerous. Collapsing like it did right where their heads are means that you have a bloody hard piece of steel for your head to be bashed against rather than the softer materials the interior has, making the chance they walk out less. Or in this case, gave em a bigger headache. Yea they couldve run some tubing along the floor and a shaft straight up the middle and it wouldn't have caved but at least everyone was okay. The a pillar on the PS is in surprisingly good shape, I guess because the two other support bars are there.
