On the topic of the Lambo doing 219 on the freeway: This is the stretch of freeway that was on. Santan loop 202 in Arizona. You can see the sign of the Hawes Rd "offramp" (which is funny because Hawes Rd doesn't even run through there - it is a ramp to nothing) at the start of the video.

What blows my mind about it is two things - one, that is not a very straight and level stretch of road there. It's hardly the Dragon but it does have a few serious bridges and long sweeping curves, but I suppose the pavement is fresh at least. Two, there is a very real and generally constant police presence there, especially at night - as often as not, there is a cruiser sitting lights out in the center median, waiting for someone to fly by.

Well, I haven't driven the 2010+ MS3 so I can't personally comment on how much less torque steer it has than my '07... but I can absolutely say I'm too scared to even attempt that hands-off maneuver anywhere this side of a very large, very empty skidpad.

There's a cultural thing, too. NASCAR is increasingly moving towards "have at it, boys" where they slap drivers harder for whining about the problems with the new car than they do for blatantly intentional hits on track (and I mean the ones that go well beyond 'rubbin is racin').

Race drivers have been yelling at each other since the dawn of time, no matter what series you're talking about.

Horsepower is based on rotation which is why it is misleading for a linearly translating car.

What you want is
code:
[torque output by the engine]*[drivetrain efficiency]*[transmission gear ratio]*[final drive ratio]
/
[outer radius of the tires]
this should give a linear force along the lines of pounds of thrust for an aircraft.

You can than use work/energy methods to find the change in speed over distance or impulse/momentum methods to find the change in speed over time.

You just gave a whole boatload of numbers to come up with something even less relevant than horsepower by itself. You can game that one by gearing, too, but it still doesn't mean much compared to the car's ability to get traction / ability to maintain that acceleration / mass that must be accelerated.

At which point we're back to just bench racing 0-60, 1/4 mile, and Ring laptimes, so who the gently caress cares? Stop worrying about the numbers, does the car give you a smile and/or erection when you get in it?

Or, make you fear for your life?

:smith::hf::smith:

It's the one thing that sucks about electrics, where the people who live far enough away to actually see a real economic benefit from switching, can't do so unless their workplace installs charging on-site as well. I'd have a Leaf already if there was so much as a single 120V outlet I could plug into at work.

They kinda hit on it at the end - they filmed that at the same time as Roadkill #29. They're pros at looking good presentable not like serial killers while working on two shows until ungodly hours.

Also, they did something with that Camaro that you don't see often on the cable-channel car shows they call out. Any other show would've replaced the clutch and not mentioned it at all. They brought up a very real fact that if your car has some miles on it and you've been hot rodding it at all during that time, the stock clutch isn't going to like an additional 150hp and drag radials.

It may not be the unhinged awesomeness that is Roadkill, but I'd rather have Hot Rod Garage and Roadkill alternating every two weeks, than Roadkill alone every four.
