Really seems like they could've moved the timing lights further from the stop box :stare:

I swear I've seen that truck before but I can't find it. It's either a '67 C10, or a a '68-'72 with a '67 cab swapped on it. And it sounds loving evil.

It was clearly the solid copper historic plate that kept the 10,000hp Jeep from walking away from that one. Just trying to keep things fair.

Seems like that might be an argument to replace the tire barrier with a SAFER barrier so it doesn't 'grab' the car so badly.

Yeah, let's reiterate that again. The fuel pump for that thing has more horsepower than most people have in their entire family fleet combined.

At Long Beach, right after they finished their race, Robby Gordon decided to bounce his truck up on two wheels at about halfway through the cool down lap, and kept it up until the end of the last hairpin.

Man that was an awesome video. You can see that for the first couple laps Long is driving kind of conservatively, but after that he really starts to get into it. Also those 935s toward the end you can literally see the turbo lag; coming out of the last corner it's "nothing, nothing, nothing...OHHOLYSHIT goodbye".

That, and the camera car is clearly running a lot less power than anything else out there. He's just killing them in the corners to make up for it.

That's the track I ran them on. You should be somewhere around WOT at the green dot, banging up all the way to sixth gear down that straightaway across the top. The earliest you should be on the brakes for the second-gear first turn with the yellow dot, is around that red dot.

I wish they would've kept wailing on them until they found an actual power loss. I'm sure stock-style manifolds would still see a prettty big drop, because all of them merge 4-1 so quickly. Even with the horribly beaten up pipes, those are still large pipes, and they still stay as four separate tubes for a long time.

Reduced exhaust flow will usually result in lower horsepower produced at the crank. The engine has to push the exhaust out of the chamber on the exhaust stroke, so reducing the work required to do so results in more crank horsepower. With properly designed / tuned headers, you can also get a 'scavenging' effect at some RPMs, where the movement of one exhaust pulse through the collector lowers the pressure in the primary tube of the next cylinder that is about to dump into the header.

A long-held school of thought is that bashing the gently caress out of a header like that, so that what used to be smoothly radiused bends and a circular cross-section throughout is now a mess of jagged dents, would reduce exhaust flow enough to kill a significant bit of horsepower. Granted, these are 1.75" primary-tube headers so even dented there's still a lot of area, but this is also a 560hp 6.6L engine. Like they mention at the end of the video, you most likely would see a significant drop by switching to 1.625" primary-tube headers.

The more time Tony gets on camera the better he is, and having Lucky to bounce off of works even better. Laughed my rear end off at "eight inches".

IOwnCalculus
Apr 2, 2003

I know I've posted the headers one before, if not in this thread then somewhere in AI. It seems like you'd have neutered the engine badly by the time they're done, but the overall area of the header doesn't really decrease that much even as hard as they were mashing it.

VikingSkull posted:

The Hemi one is great and I have no idea why LS swap candidates don't use them

There's a joke in here about there not being enough running-but-worthless Rams to pull them from, I suspect. Also, what's the tuning / wiring situation like with the Hemi? The GM ECU might as well be an aftermarket standalone at this point.
