Is putting your components in an enclosed space (Xbox 360, HTPC, etc) generally considered a bad idea? I'm trying to look for a decent tv stand, but I cannot seem to get what I am looking for unless most of the components are behind glass. Will the remote signals even go through the glass? I'd like a little storage in the TV stand- I don't really prefer the totally open-air stands.

Also, whats a common height people put their tvs at? Middle of the screen at eye level or slightly higher? I'd be about 10 feet from my TV (46 inches).
