Budget - $1,300

Size - 50"+, 55" seems like the ideal size for me

Priority - great 1080p picture (surprise!), excellent response time for my 360, solid blu ray support.

I looked at the KDL55EX500 and 55LK520 at best buy. Both were 1,099 but I'm not sure if I want another LCD tv. The UN55D6000 beside those looked incredible. But I've read some things about "flashlighting" and such.

Any opinions or suggestions on other televisions?

I went with th 55" ST30. This tv is so god drat pretty. Can anyone point me towards the best settings for using my 360 to its fullest ability with this tv? I can't figure out the right mix of 360/tv settings to utilize the 360s reference level options.

e: is slide prep and calibration really a thing?

Reposting this. I now have an ST30 but honestly I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. I really don't think plasma is for someone like me. My tv is usually on for 80% of the day and I'm constantly worried about burn in. Between my girlfriend and I we game around 6-7 hours a day. Falling asleep with Netflix menus on the screen happens often too. And sports. I can't imagine even the "safest" plasmas can put up with this for long.

How consistent have Sony LCD HDTVs been in the last 6 years or so in terms of overall quality?

Before I decide to keep my ST30, do I have any options under $1300 for a nice quality 55"+ tv with extremely minimal lag/response times and no forced motion smoothing? The current quality standard for a tv is slightly depressing. Prices are low but I've yet to find many standouts. I can't wait to see what apple comes out with, assuming their tv rumors are true.

I should mention that although most of the watching will be done in the evening/night, the TV will be in a somewhat bright room, if that affects the recommendation any.

I have a 55" ST30. I live in Florida (no clouds, bright annoying sun every day) and there's a huge window across from the tv. On mid brightness and mid panel backlight it's fine on a really sunny day. It can be extremely bright if you need it to.

My ST30 is buzzing really loud when there's anything on the screen, ugh. Different panel brightnesses (low, mid, high) changes the noise slightly. Anyone else had this issue? I got the tv around Christmas.

Does anyone have tips for making my 55" ST30 more vibrant? I want something in between realistic colors with deep blacks and bright vivid popping colors. I notice with reasonable "neutral" settings the whites are a little dull and colors are lacking sometimes. Even with brightness and contrast up more than usual setups.

why do people mount their TVs so high? don't their necks hurt? anything above eye level is kind of silly or am I missing something

Recliner, at least in my case. My tv isn't very far up though.
