Samsung's latest plasma's are and he should consider those as well. Their 50" plasmas are a good buy.

Any suggestions/comparisons on these three models would be highly appreciated. I'd really like to know what you guys think I should get. I'm definitely leaning towards the Sharp or LG at this point, but still don't know what to get. Again, I'll be using it mainly for gaming, but will still watch a good amount of cable TV and dvd's.

I wouldn't go with any of those, instead I'd get the Sharp LC37GP1U. It's a new model that's been built for gaming according to Sharp. It's got 3 HDMI ports, 2 component, and dvi so you're covered for games and dvds. It's 1080p so you can use it for 360/PS3 and HD DVDs when you get them. If I were buying a TV today that's the one I'd get. It's a little more than the three you're looking at but I think it's worth it.

Do you guys generally have extended warranties? I almost always refuse them, but a new hdtv is kind of a big purchase, etc.

Since S-Video is limited to 480i I have been looking at some of my options and since the TV has a VGA input I decided to get a DVI-VGA cable and directly connect the videocard's DVI output to my TV's VGA in. This is where the problems start.

I can't find any info on your TV but does it have any dvi or hdmi inputs? If it does you'd probably get better results going dvi>dvi or dvi>hdmi.

The price range we are looking at is about 1500 bucks.

I have several sets in mind.

At that viewing distance you'd want at least a 42" TV and preferably 50". If you have a Fry's electronics in your area you should check them out. They always have the Panasonic TH-50PX75U or Samsung 5054 50" plasmas (both great TVs) on sale for $1499 it just seems like they alternate them each week. If you do you may be able to get Best Buy to price match them and if not you can probably get them to knock at least 250 dollars off one of those.

To anyones knowledge, are there any HDTV brands that do that same thing with HDMI? (Not allowing 1080p), because I have an Acer AT3705-MGW, and it wont allow 1080 over VGA - so i'm kinda worried that it won't allow it on HDMI either (it allows it over Component fine though).

If you have a 1080p tv with an hdmi port there's a 99% chance it will display it over hdmi.

Many cable companies have their HD locals unencrypted and you can just split the incoming line to your tv and should be able to find the digital locals by doing a channel search on your tv. But if you're close enough to where you can use an indoor antenna go that route.
