You're not supposed to read reviews after you purchase.

It says April/May, but I also always thought that right before the Superbowl is good assuming you live in the US.

I bought my current HDTV right before the Superbowl and felt like I got a good deal. I'm still happy with it years later but my wife wants a plasma to hang on the wall and reclaim the space taken up by our RPHDTV. It's difficult to argue with getting a new tv.

To be quite honest I had a hard time differentiating between a lot of the TVs in the store.

I'm always leery of the picture quality in big box stores because you are assuming that the televisions were set up correctly and that random people haven't played with the settings.

My 8 year old RPHDTV is tired so I'm doing my homework now with plans to buy a new TV in the next month or so.

1. Gaming : does LCD vs Plasma matter anymore?
2. Is video lag a concern with gaming anymore?
3. Is one 3D technology better than another?

Not sure what my budget will be yet but I want to round out my knowledge so that if I run across a good deal I can pounce.

Well when I started I was pretty certain I wanted an LCD (rather than plasma) but after reading some on Cnet and a few other sites I'm more informed and more confused than ever.

I'm looking hard at this U50 I've seen mentioned a bunch of times.

I have 8 year old Hitachi, 1080i, 46", RPHDTV that I'm about to replace. The picture is great but is it worth trying to sell? I see tons of them on craigslist but I don't know if they ever actually sell.

Think I'm about to pull the trigger on this LG 47CM565 47" LCD

Any opinions?

Well, last minute decision and I bought the JVC 47" LCD for $399 at Walmart, hopefully it doesn't bite me in the rear end.

The 47" JVC LCD I bought from Walmart.com on Black Friday arrived today, a week early. The picture looks fine to me, better than my old RPHDTV which needs new lamps. The only downside so far is that channels are a bit slow when changing.

I do have a question though... the tv speakers do not work when the tv is connected with hdmi, is that normal? My old tv is dvi/component so this is my first experience with hdmi.

satellite > Onkyo receiver > JVC tv

That might have something to do with your receiver not passing through audio. I have an older onkyo myself, and the only time I've noticed sound coming out of the Tv's speakers is when I forget to turn on my receiver.

Figured it out this morning, there was a setting under hardware.

This (HT-RC260) has been the fussiest receiver I've ever owned (not because of this particular question), I don't know that I'd buy another Onkyo after this one. It sounds better than my old Pioneer but only after extensive tweaking. Sometimes I want to go back to my old Sony, that thing always sounds great.
