You are right about the being anal part. You have to have the static images on for hours for the older sets and to my understanding you don't have to worry that much on the newer ones.

I have the Vizio 3D and its amazing for me. I'm no videophile but I can actually tell balls and strikes and balls way better in MLB11 and Black Ops Zombie is a new experience.

Oh I'm no videophile either. You know how when you look at a 3D picture without the glasses on, everything is really fuzzy like there's 2 pictures overlaid? (Like in the picture I attached) Well on mine, even with the glasses on anything that isn't in the middle 15-20% of the screen still looks like that.

It's really bad on Crysis 2 & Wipeout HD but Mortal Kombat isn't too bad (not great either)

I just checked Wipeout HD on my TV and it did not look anything like that. It wasn't the greatest but it looks worlds better than what your TV is doing and definitely didn't have the blurriness in the middle like you described.

Is the Vizio XVT3D474SV a bad idea? I don't really care about 3D but it's cheaper than the XVT473SV and has the same specs otherwise. I've somehow convinced myself that I should get something with local dimming but this is the only one in my price range. Is there another 47" TV I should look at for < $1k?

I have one of its bigger brothers and have been extremely happy with it. For under a grand jump on it.

I've been waffling on a new TV for awhile, and I've somewhat narrowed down some choices and wanted to see if anyone has tried them.
First Choice is a Sony NX-711 http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=KDL46NX711 , for 999 with 2 pair of glasses and the emitter.
Edge lit, 120hz, 3d, it seems to cover most of the bullet points, and the free 3d stuff is nice.

Other is a Vizio XVT3D474SV, http://www.vizio.com/via-hdtvs/xvt3d474sv.html?___SID=U for 899 with glasses. Now specs-wise, it looks like a no brainer and the only thing really holding me back is getting over the brand. I don't have any real reason to dislike Vizio, but like others say, its the Hyundai name thing.

I've also been looking at a Sony EX-720, which is an upgraded version of the 710 and can be found locally for 1200, but I've seen reports in the AVS Forums about the 3D being bad. Its not like I'd use 3d all that often, but when I do it'd be nice if it worked well. Any thoughts?

I have the Vizio's bigger sister and would make love to it if I could. I was also put off because of the name but did some research through the AVS forums and elsewhere on the net and am very happy with the purchase.

I just got a Samsung UN46D8000. What's the best way to adjust the picture settings? I'm having a hard time settling on a configuration.

I usually go to the AVS forums and get settings from there. You can usually find at least one person there that has your TV and set his with calibration equipment.
