Is the
LG 50PM4700
as good of a deal as it looks especially with a second pair of glasses free?

Right now I'm using a Vizio 32" LCD, and my viewing distance is about ten feet. I don't NEED to upgrade, but if that deal will last a little bit, I'd pick one up.

I'm really torn. I'm currently on a 32" LCD and its just too small for the living room. It works fine as a Bedroom TV, but now i'm on my own with a bigger space, I think a bigger TV is called for.

I'm torn between the 42/47 LCD size or jumping up to 50" and Plasma via Panasonic. I'd really like to stay below the $700 limit unless there is a huge case to be made.

I can get the Panasonic U50 for about $700 through amazon, which really seems to be the sweet sport of Size/Price/Technology. Is it really worth having to save the money even longer, and double the price just for the 3D and Black Panel Louvers of the ST50 and up?

bump for the new home of the thread.

ST50 owners, comments? I know I've seen several of you buy them.

If you can wait a week, I'm getting either the 60" or 65" ST50 and will report back about whether or not I like the set.

I can wait indeed.

I'd really like to know about the infinite black/louver stuff.

Im also looking at getting a 42" LED TV around the 500-600 budget range. I have a Costco membership and would prefer Vizio or Samsung. Has anyone purchased a budget TV from Costco recently?

The best deal at Costco, hands down, is the Panasonic U50 50" plasma for $650.

I'm not very technical though, so I'll probably just be reporting back whether or not I like it, compared to my 5 year old Samsung plasma.

Did you pull the trigger?

I am doing that, the sd signal just looks like poop on my tv. Guess I'll just be content with free cable, although some sort of dvr would be awesome.

look for channels with a dash, those are the HD.

IE: 13-2, 2-1 and so forth. Those are usually the HD Broadcast stations (NBC, CBS, etc)

Part 2: Bull, can you talk about the louver technology on the ST50 and if it makes a big differnce vs the non louvered U50? If you notice that is.

I think I'll just wind up mounting the TV to the wall. Most TV support stands are looking like $50-100 with shipping and it's much easier just to drill a hole and putty it after, the rental I'm in has off-white paint and the landlord went out of her way to say we can hang stuff on the walls.

I always just buy some spackle and matching paint, even if i do it right and mount the TV to a stud.

Sam's Club has the 50" model for $588 with free shipping. (or in store)

So I'm looking around at the 50" $700 price point and there seem to be quite a few choices across all the technologies.

Panasonic Plasma the U50: http://goo.gl/FOK0c

Panasonic LCD: http://goo.gl/6k7jQ

Toshiba LCD: http://goo.gl/PrkRA

Samsung Plasma: http://goo.gl/uJpKD

At this price point is it all just a matter of preference? The light in my room is easily managed, so glare is not a problem. 3D is niether plus nor minus.

Thoughts?

So I'm really torn on this.

I have my eye on the 70" Sharp LED but I've read a few poor reviews. The display model looks good to my eyes but I keep hearing I won't be happy in the long run. The major draw is the $1800 sale price on Black Friday, down from $2500-$2700 depending on store.

There is also another 70" model that Best Buy currently sells for the same price and has a few good reviews here

It would appear the only major difference is the Smart TV features, am I missing anything?

I'd really been pushing for a huge TV but numerous sources tell me to go for a Plasma and I found this Samsung on Amazon and Best Buy for $850.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PN60E...=PN60E530A3FXZA

I don't need 3D, this would be used for Netflix, Xbox and media streaming. Also this set gets great reviews. Are there any major flaws with Samsung's plasmas?

The 60" Panasonic is only $800.

I'm currently waffling between the Panasonic TC-P60U50 60-Inch 600Hz Plasma HDTV (Amazon) and the VIZIO E601i-A3 60-Inch 1080p 120Hz Razor LED Smart HDTV (Amazon). I read through the last few pages of the thread, but nobody seems to have a strong opinion of one over the other, but that they were both good in different ways. I don't watch that much TV and am really only planning on using it for movies, so is there anything I should be aware of? Also, what is the expected life of these units? I realize that they are both pretty new, but it'd be nice to know how many years they should last.

You and me both man....

Figured it out this morning, there was a setting under hardware.

This (HT-RC260) has been the fussiest receiver I've ever owned (not because of this particular question), I don't know that I'd buy another Onkyo after this one. It sounds better than my old Pioneer but only after extensive tweaking. Sometimes I want to go back to my old Sony, that thing always sounds great.

I've found that the HT products are more AIO-Box and don't have the full feature-set of the SR or TX receivers.
