Does anyone have any recommendations for 50" plasmas? I've heard that Panasonic are pretty good if a little pricey, with Samsung and LG snapping at their heels. As with most people, I don't care about the 3D but I do care about picture quality and having a decent number of HDMI/USB connections, and possibly DLNA. Budget is around £700 or less, anyone know good places to shop?

Just ordered the P50GT30 on Amazon in the UK. Can't wait for it to arrive, but it's seriously disappointing that we get screwed with the smaller range over here. Basically if you want to a Viera over 50" you're limited to the VT only, which is sort of ridiculous. I blame the smaller market and the ignorance of the consumers, but whatever - hopefully 50" plasma will tide me over until the next technology comes along.

For any UKers looking for a decent deal on a Viera, Amazon are doing a deal until the 31st where you get a blu-ray player and 2 sets of glasses for like £25, and the GT30 is <£1000 which is the cheapest you can get in the UK currently. Get your orders in quick!

So I got my new Panasonic P50GT30 and the screen is absolutely amazing. I'm really pleased with the buy, but I've noticed that during some scenes the brightness levels visibly shift slightly up and down. It's especially noticeable on the darker areas of the screen. Is this the dreaded fluctuating brightness problem? Is there a known solution?

If you have CATS off and the tv was made before August then yes you have the FB problem. Fear not, it's an easy fix. Call Panasonic concierge and say you have the fb issue and they will send a tech out to fix it.

Do it sooner rather than later because the part may be back ordered as was in my case. After a tech fixed mine it has been flawless. I have not seen the brightness shift once since it was done.

All right... it just seems odd since I ordered this TV off Amazon just before the new year. Is it even possible they'd keep stock that long, or is it just that the fbr issue hasn't been fixed in production models and they're hoping people simply don't notice?
