I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Vizio XVT553SV LCD. All of the reviews of read (both consumer & website) have been overwhelmingly positive. Does anyone have any experience with this model or the others in that same model line that might dissuade me?

Just got finished dialing in my VIZIO XVT553SV. This thing is the mutt's nuts and a decent amount cheaper than other offerings in its class. The only issue that I read up on that appeared with any consistency was the topic of blooming. I *only* notice it on a completely black background with white lettering; even then, it doesn't really bother me too much. Other than that, I've found zero issues with this set: it's gorgeous, it's connected (VIA's pretty neat), it's a keeper.

MC Fruit Stripe posted:I'll be picking up a Vizio XVT series from Costco tonight. I think I've talked myself out of the 55" and into 47" - 55" just seems like so much television, but not enough to justify the $400 increase. I don't think I can legitimately ask this question, but internet, am I supposed to buy the 55" instead? I just got the 55" XVT - it's loving gargantuan! But, I have zero complaints; it's a steal in its class and even has features that more expensive TV's don't.

more friedman units posted:That's the exact deal I have my eye on. Anyone have any comments or warnings about this one (or Vizio TVs in general)? As posted before, I have the 55" version of this television. I am more than pleased with my purchase and it was actually a steal in its class. The XVT line has most certainly put Vizio on the map, comparably to Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, et. al.

MC Fruit Stripe posted:Is there anything coming that's going to make me wish I'd waited and bought a better TV for the same price in a month? This is hard to imagine, I suspect. It's a bit cheaper than other comparable alternatives in its class and I've still yet to find any one problem with it that bothers me. In fact, I can't find any. I don't think the critics/reviewers led me astray at all: everything I read about the XVT's pre-purchase seemed to heap a fair bit of praise on the line. My experience so far mimics those kudos.

Roneth posted:Would getting this Vizio TV not be too retarded? I wish other folks who owned XVT's would chime in, because I'm starting to sound like a Vizio fanboy, when in fact, I don't have any stake in preferring one brand over the other. The TV you linked is in the same model series as the 55" that I own. Assuming you don't get a defective unit or something gets damaged during shipping, I can nearly guarantee you that you'll be happy with your purchase.

Codependent Poster posted:Also, I'm still not really comfortable with Vizio.... Why? Viz's current models (and their last series) hold up very well versus any of the other manufacturers. I got an XVT553SV earlier this year after a ton of side-by-side comparing. Including the price, no other model came close, IMO.

Don't rule out the Vizio XVT series. I've had mine for 9 months now & can honestly say it's one of the nicest televisions I've ever owned.

MC Fruit Stripe posted:I've googled everywhere and everything, but I figure someone might have experience with Vizio TVs and know a way to do this. My Vizio XVT553SV has 5 HDMI, composite, VGA, yada yada yada. I am only using 3 of the inputs, but when I push the input button, I get all of the inputs up. I'd rather just get the active inputs up. Anyone know how to disable unused inputs? I have the same TV; unless it's something they're willing to fix via firmware, I don't believe you can disable inputs appearing on-screen, whether they're active or not.

I've used that feature a few times; yeah, it's pretty handy to not have to wade through a million phone menus just to speak to someone. What I did to (sort of) overcome the problem was just re-route everything so that when I do pull up the input menu, only the top 3 inputs are active and I can just scroll through those. For the record, I've only got a cable box, a Blu-Ray player, and a computer going to the HDMI inputs.

MC Fruit Stripe posted:Can you explain the steps on that? That sounds functionally like exactly what I want. Yep, that's pretty much it. Though I don't have to actually change the input when I turn on my Blu-Ray player; for some reason, the TV detects that it's on and switches to that input, which is somewhat odd. My Motorola Cox Cable remote acts pretty decently as a universal remote; I don't really have to use any of my other ones unless I want to get into some of the deeper features of each device. The only time I use the Vizio remote is when I'm using Netflix, though I gotta' say, the Bluetooth is a nice touch and not having to sit up on one of my couches and point the thing at the TV highlights my spectacular laziness.

Crossposted from one of the SA Mart Cyber Monday threads: Anyone have any opinions on the Sceptre TV's? Wal-Mart has a 40" going on sale for $329; I'm just looking for something to replace my children's 27" SDTV that's slowly dying.

Rrail posted:I ran a search but I didn't find anything on the topic: The "speed" of the internet apps on my Vizio seems to be directly linked to it's connection. I was just relying on wifi, but actually running cat5 to it sped things up tremendously. As to your question, I've not seen that feature implemented in any TV I've owned; that's usually a scheduling task that your content provider has built-in. For instance, I have Cox cable and using their interace, I can schedule shows to record, change channels, or even just give me a pop-up reminder at the start of the program.

My tv is usually on for 80% of the day and I'm constantly worried about burn in. Between my girlfriend and I we game around 6-7 hours a day. Falling asleep with Netflix menus on the screen happens often too. And sports. I can't imagine even the "safest" plasmas can put up with this for long. Look at the Vizio LCD's in that size class. Seriously.

Quick question with an issue I'm having: Have a Vizio 553SV, just over a year old. It's been magnificent up until this morning. I had the TV on and out of the blue, the picture drops. I still have sound and I can see that the backlight is on. But, starting/restarting the TV and the digital box and changing out the HDMI cable hasn't done anything to help. Any ideas?
