Well it sure isn't IN Fallout New Vegas I can tell you that much, I listened through all the soundtrack and cannot pin it down anywhere, but I swear I heard it before. Sorry I can't help further but must be some blues enthusiast here to help v:shobon:v

Can anyone help me by the way with something, there's a song I've been TRYING to figure out for years. The song from this trailer for True Crime: Streets of LA, would super-appreciate anyone helping me figure it out, I don't think it actually is in the game's soundtrack so...

This is a well-known rock song, but I've never understood a word of the lyrics. It's fast-paced, sung by a man who's kind of slurring the lyrics, he sings about a sentence's worth, there's three guitar chords, a few more words, and then the same chords. I'm pretty sure it's a very famous band, I just don't know anything to help describe the song better.

Also, who sang the version of The Moon Was Yellow in this video?

Do you think you could pin a decade or style/subgenre of rock to it? Is it similar to Metallica or AC/DC or does it sound like 80's hair metal or 90's grunge, etc?

The guitar reminds me of Panama by Van Halen, the singing style reminds me of Kurt Cobain.

Thanks for that one :)

I was listening to this song today

And starting at 4:03 you hear this warmer guitar(?) sound in the background doing small melodies that keeps going till the end of the song.

This sound/melody sounds so amazingly familliar but i can't put my finger on it, anyone know of songs/band that vaguely sound like that guitar thing ?

Thanks!

I think it's some combination of an acoustic(?) guitar that's being overdriven a bit and heavily compressed, with a tremolo effect. So you end up with a powerful, slightly distorted tone with a lot of sustain, and without any pick attack on the notes - they just kinda pop immediately into existence or flow from the previous ones, legato style

Anyway I don't know about that exact sound (the melody seems to be following the vocals?), but bands who use Ebows or actual bows will get a similar tone - here's a pretty famous song that uses an ebow in the lower and upper registers. Sort of like a synth cello

I'm having a hard time focusing on just the e-bow/guitar, but 9 times out of 10 when you hear a melody that sounds familiar, yet hard to place, it's probably Pachelbel's Canon, which has been used as a melody in just about every genre of music. It could be a slowed down version of that, or something else that's very common.

...yeaaaaaah I'm seeing what you think, I definitely know the song somehow, at first I thought it was Deftones because it was kind of that 90s-rock maybe-grunge style of music, but I listened through every Deftones song before this game was made and none of them fit enough. I ALMOST got close with their song "Beauty School" since it was kind of similar but nope, not quite.

But nope nothing, you got the idea though! And it has to be a song before 2003 also, whatever song from this trailer for True Crime: Streets of LA is anyways.

\/ Edit: It's definitely something before 2003 that much I can tell you, and certainly along the grunge period. Other than that I know bands that HAVE this style but none come to mind. Not Cunbersome by Seven Mary Three, I dunno them and it's not that song, but I hope you can find it, I've been trying to find this song for like 11 years.

Totally separate. I'm pretty sure everyone will call me a total idiot because I think it's a well-known song, but maybe it's an unknown song that I think is popular because my uncle's a music hipster. There was another song I asked for, but it's already been solved.

I think the problem is that if it is grunge era, it's a pretty wide net. Everybody was slurring their lines and Veddering all over the place. Like, as soon as you said you never understood the lyrics I thought it'd be Yellow Ledbetter, and then after you said it was fast-paced I thought "well, maybe it's Go instead."

...it's not Go, right?

For certain definitions of "fast paced" could even be "Even Flow". Probably the most mumblingest and Vedderest song of the Pearl Jam catalog.

Yeah uh I kinda totally thought you were talking about the True Crime song I linked to as well so I got all confused, not that it DOESN'T sound like grunge music, it does have that late 90s feel to it, and I thought it was Deftones but it totally wasn't. I'm just trying to think if there are any other bands even close to that sort of music, again I thought I had it with "Beauty School" but nope it wasn't quite right.

My only tell is that it's before 2003 since that's when the trailer came out so that narrows it down a LITTLE?

Whenever I listen to that True Crime track it just sounds like a knockoff of Linkin Park's In The End. It's definitely more in that range of late 90s/early 2000s more heavily produced rock (with electronic and rap and poo poo thrown in) than plain old garage-y early 90s grunge.

I can tell you right now it's not Linkin Park, it DOES sound like a knockoff of "In The End" but given a much more aggressive high pitch and extra piano so perhaps either an imitator band of some sort or someone with the same style. This is the part where I shamefully admit that in my teenage days I did actually buy both their first and second albums and the song does not exist on either. Even checking EPs and whatnot, this is not a Linkin Park song.

On the right track musically though, I checked all across Youtube and nothing fits it, it DOES sound similiar to their style, the piano playing and such does feel very like them, but it's not. Anyone got any other suggestions?

No, and no to the other guesses. I've heard this mystery song on the radio multiple times and I don't listen to the radio very often. The grunge stuff might not be right, the words are hard to understand but it's not necessarily as deliberately hard to understand as most grunge.

This is going to end up being some recent pop-emo release where the vocals are completely intelligible, isn't it? You must have more info surely - what radio stations do you hear it on? It's not that Jet song is it? Or something like this?

Midomi seems pretty good but sadly the song I'm looking for doesn't have any lyrics or singing so trying to sing the instrumental got me nowhere. Thanks for the link though, this might be useful somewhere down the line.
