And about the mystery xylophone song, it may have been the start of Over and Over, but I don't think so; from what I recall in my song the xylophone was playing more of a scale.

It's more of a steel drum than a xylophone, but could it be Alberto Balsalm by Aphex Twin?

A few years ago, probably 2005 or 2006, I heard a song on the radio that I have not heard again. I have tried to track it down over the past few years to no avail. It was a monologue type song, where a guy is talking about driving (I think) and a girl making him drive...something like that. I heard it on Live 105 (SF BayArea Alternative Rock station) if that helps at all.

I would love to know what song it was.

Sounds a lot like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_lhspmjCJ4

I'm 90% sure I heard this on some indie rock station on Sirius XM radio, but it may be from a recent movie or commercial.

I remember the chorus is a group of young males singing basically "Bah da bah da, da da da da, dah dah bah dah" but they start out higher, then go lower, then lower again, then they start to go back up.

I think the first time, there is some music playing when they do the chorus, then later in the song, it's just the chorus singing that.

It's indie-alternative-pop but it still has a very radio friendly sound to it.

The first time the singer (male) starts to sing something, he sings "Lately, I feel that...", although I may be wrong, and the lyrics may be off.

I heard this song a long time ago on Emerson College Radio. It was during their show tunes block, so I'm positive that it's from a musical. The song is about a bunch of people talking about loss in their lives (imaginably to their therapists), specifically people who have died who were close to them. It's a bunch of different voices, and some of it is singing, but a lot of it is just talking. I thought it could be Next To Normal, but looking at the synopsis no song really matches that description. This song was incredible and emotional, and I'd love to know what song it is, and what musical it's from.

Could be Goodbye from Hereafter (the album is on Spotify if you're looking for it).

I was out at a Fatburger when I heard this song that's struck me as sounding like it came from a Sega Genesis. I assume it's from the last several years. A fairly synth-y, repetitive, driven, late 80's throwback with a clear piano hook. Had lyrics I could not discern, but probably about relationship malaise. Vocalist was like if you took all the sharp corners off of Sufjan Stevens.

Sounds like it could be Odessa by Caribou:

Edit: in the related videos is a song by MGMT called Little Dark Age that I'd never heard of but sounds exactly like your description:

Okay so there's this song lyric stuck in my head, something like "rode a white horse on a (something) rode to get to you". The song was pretty popular, and I remember the band got quite a bit of ~indie darlings~ hype, back in the mid-2000s. My mind keeps pulling up Okkervil River, but that's not them.

Maybe Zebra by Beach House? Theres a "white horse" in the chorus, at least, and they fit the profile otherwise.

The chorus of Dynamic Calories by Stephen Malkmus reminds me of some older song I can't recall.

I think it's some classic rock staple -- my first thought was Night Moves by Bob Seger. It's not that, but maybe something like it?

It's the part that goes "Times are gonna change, you will be amazed", starting around 1.02 in the video.

Thanks for all the good suggestions, but it wasn't any of those.

I knew they were on the right track, though, so I went through a classic rock playlist, including half a dozen Bob Seger songs, and I think I found the one I was thinking of:

I heard a song that sort of sounds like Stevie Wonder, or at least rather similar in musical style. The only thing I really recall is that the chorus has a part that 'subdivides' the beat (not sure if this has a technical term, but I mean a section where the same note is repeated a half/third/fourth as long as might be 'expected') so there are a lot of short syllables coming quickly. Musically I think it's mostly descending tones for that section. Sorry I can't give more but I've heard it a few times recently and that pattern kind of stuck in my head.

e: It's not 'Sir Duke', though the bit just before the chorus is a bit like what I'm talking about.

Not sure if this is the same thing, but kind of reminds me of the main lick from Glen Campbell's Southern Nights

Not any of those. I realized that the Stevie Wonder song that it most reminded me of is "As", when the background singers come in with "until the rainbow burns the stars out of the sky" etc., which is similar in structure in that the words in the chorus seem to be moving more quickly. The song I heard was a bit more mellow, but kind of similar in feel (not too funky, not too soulful), and I'm fairly sure it was at least three or four notes subdivided, generally descending instead of ascending as "As" has it.

Trying to do music matches from that gives me PJ Morton's 'One' which is close as well, but I recall the beat being more evenly split up. He seems like a possibility. Anyone know other songs of his it might be?

Song is probably from the early or mid 80s - it’s a midtempo rock song where the chorus goes “Nobody something something” and then backing vox sing (nobody nobody). Lead vocals were definitely sung by a guy, backing vocals were higher but probably also a guy. It’s been stuck in my head all day.

better man is too tinny, the guitar was more muted. it also blasts into a crescendo. this tune was mellow for at least the first maybe 2min, i didn't catch the rest after that. too much percussion and speed in sour girl. both bands were definitely in whatever playlist they were on.

all the songs it reminds me of just aren't quite right. i'm gonna be up there again tomorrow. i might ask what they use for their music. today it was classic rock instead.

EDIT: the tone of the guitar was a lot like that of opening water's edge by seven mary three but the notes/speed/etc was off and it didn't pick up like that song did. i also think spotify's results are getting muddy because i keep looking up all these 90s alt/grunge bands i remember and the "radio" playlists are just coalescing to those bands. like all these suggestions are squarely in the genre but the song was just kinda different.

The guitar tone sounds like the Staind song It's Been Awhile, and the song structure sounds like the Staind song Outside, so maybe this is some third song by Staind.

Trying to remember a downbeat rap song with a piano hook that sounds a bit like the melody from Eurythmics' Miracle of Love

I was fully sure it was Marvin's Room by Drake, so much so that it sounded wrong to me without it when I went to listen. I still think it might be a remix of it or something?
