A few days ago I heard a track with sparse lyrics. If I had to guess it was from the mid70s.

The lyrics that I heard were just a kind of chanted "ho_____oh oh_____ho_____oh oh"
Not like Santa Claus but more of an understated slower tempo tribal bass line/vibe.

reminiscent of:

The song that Dogo (what a weird name heh) is looking for reminded me of a song.

I believe the guy is comparing a girl to a car. This may or may not be his/her song but now I'm trying to remember this one myself.

It was also funny seeing that Tripping Daisy video. In Jr. High English class we had a bring your tape/CD and lyrics to school week. Someone brought that track in so I hadn't heard it in 15+ years.

This should be an easy one as it's getting a lot of radio play. I check on http://www.yes.com/ but the track is labled "---" with no artist or title. First time I've seen that.

It has lyrics "Dancing in the Moonlight" also something "spot light."

It's a female singer and sounds as if it was released in the last few years. I don't know if it's based around any of the other older 70s tracks by Thin Lizzy or other groups.

edit: it was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfmQuSoys7g

I don't know much about the song itself but I remember seeing a music video posted on here within the last 3-4 years of a girl doing a live show wearing a Dracula/vampire cape and undulating around the stage violently (playing a keyboard I think). Electronic/synthesizer style IIRC. I thought it was kind of funny but some people didn't like the music. She seemed to be an underground artist with somewhat of a following.

I heard a song on the radio today (it's one of those stations not linked with https://www.yes.com).

Anyway it sounds like a Scorpions or Def Leppard style song. I'm 99% sure it's from the 80s or early 90s. Slow and strained, painful singing, high-pitched but also very slow paced. This seems to make it somewhat distinctive.

One of the first lyrical segments opens with a slow "Try, try..." and another segment has I believe "If you ever..."

edit: I found it. It was Scorpions - Still Loving You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUMcA--ejOc Apparently this is what's called a power ballad. I need to check out Scorpions full catalog. I keep coming across individual tracks I like.
