Mentioned this in the other thread we had a bit ago about gear, might as well repost it. I have a 2pc Alpinestars suit I am trying to sell if anyone is interested. Jacket is 42US/52EU, pants are 34US/50EU.

Pretty stupid. The suit I'm trying to sell above, I bought without trying on and it ended up being about 1 size too big for both the pants and jacket. Sizes will vary according to the brand. Different brands have different "cuts" to them

The only times I've had a problem with my solid leather gloves was in the dead of winter, when I probably shouldn't have been riding anyways. Really, if it gets that cold you can probably just put on a smaller pair of regular cotton or wool gloves to keep your hands warm inside the leather gloves.

Are Sidi boots considered the top of the line? Boots are probably the next thing I need to upgrade. Not really sure whether I want to look into Sidi, Alpinestars or Oxtar

I only started to think a bit more seriously about upgrading from my old Alpinestars GPS3s after seeing a local guy have his right foot smashed all to poo poo in a freak accident. He was wearing seemingly nice Teknic boots but I guess they didn't help much. On the grand scale of things, this is how I imagine the comparison goes: Alpinestars Supertech - Sidi Vertigo Corsa SMX Plus - regular Vertigo - Oxtar TCS Evo RX SMX-R - B-2 I'm sortof leaning towards the Oxtar TCS Evo RX replica, problem is that no where on loving earth apparently carries the drat thing so there isn't any "trying it on"

I've owned Oxtar and Alpinestars (and worn and tried on basically everything else), but give Alpinestars the edge. What models from those brands have you worn? I liked how the SMX-R felt when I tried them on. That inner sock thing they have really felt like it would keep my ankle from snapping like a twig if I flew off

abunchofnumbers posted:Also, are you able to wear racing boots like normal shoes? Such as ride to school, walk to class, sit down and wear them for 3 hours, ride home etc or does that totally kill your feet? You probably wouldn't want to walk around in the more hardcore models like the Alpinestars Supertech or Sidi Vertigo Corsa. Racing boots tend to be incredibly stiff and are designed to lock your ankle into a certain position. Try on a pair at a store and see how well you can walk around in them

Jazzzzz posted:that pad is essentially their stand-alone back protector without straps. it's not as good as a stand-alone because the armor will move around with your jacket, which probably doesn't have a tight fit, but it's better than the EVA foam that came with it. Doesn't look like it goes as far down your spine as many of the other stand-alone protectors do. They pretty well get to the small of your back if not the top of your rear end

Call me a brand whore but I'll be damned if this stuff isn't really good gear for a great price. Also, don't look at my seemingly brand new knee pucks that are in fact 7 months old. Still trying to decide what boots to get next. I was given $150 in Visa gift cards for my birthday, so that bumped my price range up to $300, maybe a little more. So now the options as best I see are Alpinestars SMX Plus, Sidi Vertigo or Vertigo Air, and the Oxtar TCS Replicas.

Is a Shoei X11 that much better than an RF1000? It looks like I can get a light silver X11 for about $411 + tax or a light silver RF1k for about $278 + tax. I know the X11 is supposedly a little lighter weight and has better ventilation but is that stuff even all that noticeable?

Z3n posted:IMO, it's worth it if it fits you better. Otherwise it's not. I tried on a L and XL of both. Both XLs were way too big, too much flopping side to side and up and down. Both Ls fit snuggly. I think the RF1k probably fit "better" than the X11 but it was by so small a margin that it would be negligible. bung posted:$411 is a great price for an X11. My local Cycle Gear is having a Halloween sale Oct 25. 20% off all helmets, and because I'm all with the manager and every employee there, they gave me one of those 5% cards which I can stack on top of the Halloween sale. Twenty-Seven posted:I've owned both. The extra ventilation on the X11 is definitely noticeable, but the difference isn't HUGE. Still, I switched from the RF1000 to the X11 in the middle of this summer, and I certainly appreciated it. As bung mentioned though, the X11 is LOUD. Oh drat, I didn't realize you could only replace the cheek pads in the RF versus all of the pads in the X11. Hmm, gently caress, that doesn't help the decision making process any.

I'm not as tall and slim as you (only 5'10 and 165lbs) but I have a pretty small waist and broad shoulders so every jacket from US-based companies I tried on ending up fitting like a loving dress. I started checking out European-based companies and sure enough, they would fit perfectly.
